There is a little strut ont he passenger side of my 79 924 that sits between the engine and the frame. The stabilizer is shot and makes for a loud clanking and noise when driving. There is not a parts store in town that can even find this, I can not find one on line. I have manufactured a solid piece that fills the gap, with 3/8" rubber grommets for cushion. Is there a problem with not having this stabilizer in place and replacing with a solid shaft>? I have noticed engine noise transmission, am planning to try additional rubber bushings to minimize this.

Chuck it. My 1980 had it before I rebuilt the engine, it never went back on, its just dead weight.

Actually, very early cars did not have it. Porsche added it and made available as an retrofit. If you did find the part from Porsche it would be unbelievably expensive. Since the early cars lived without, the turbo does not have it, and as you can see lots of people have left it off: Don't worry about it.

If your car is old enough to have destroyed the damper you might want to take a close look at the right side engine mount.

Unbelievably expensive is right. I saw the retrofit kit for the 931 on PelicanParts for about $1000 US as I recall.
An eBay search finds some in the $25-$35 range and higher that I'm sure could be adapted for use on the 924-931.
