I heard some cars running at the track tonight so I had to take a drive up there to see what was going on. Ended up being 4 -6 cyl modified cars and 3 4 cyl stock cars, including myself and the most winning car at the track.

Had a really good run with them and after 7-8 laps I managed to pull in front of all of them including my nemisis.

Round 2 was just myself and the #9 car. I can easily out pull and out corner him now. The suspension adjustment paid off! Now if I can pull off a win with 15 cars on the track I'll be laughing. Glad I have the pole for the first 2 races this coming Sunday .

Sunday will be the day! If the weather can co-operate. Right now it's giving showers

No claim rule at our track. There used to be a claim rule for the motor, but they did away with it this year as no one ever used it but it did scare off some potential car builders.

I never did get time to build that can mount for the car...I'll put it on my do-to list.

1. Change brake pads
2. Mount in car cam
3. Bring home 3 checkered flags!

It varies, but the gist of it is, anyone finishing in the top ten (or 5, or 3, etc) can "claim" the motor of the first place car (or sometimes the entire car), paying a price specified in the rules. If the winner refuses to sell, a suspension for some period of time is levied.

Scary!

Plus, his '78 is his track car, as can be seen from his .signature.

That's not the 'vette.

The point of the claim rule is to keep people from dumping too much money in their cars and buying a win. If anyone else can buy your car for a pre-set entry level price, then that removes the incentive to dump crazy amounts of money in your car -- if you were to do that, someone could just buy your car dirt cheap.

At our local track, there's been a couple classes with a claim rule -- claimers, which has a price (used to be $300) for the entire car, and thunder cars, which had a price for just the motor.

So, if you crack up your car pretty good, you can just buy the winners car out from under him instead of fixing yours up.

So are there any rules to claiming? sounds like a rule made up by a poor sport cry babies.

So i could spend hours building my car, taking the time to do every thing right and use a few tricks i know to get a few extra hp, while keeping the car with in all the rules of the class and another racer could lose and claim my motor/car. if i refuse to give up my car i can be suspended from the track because i don't want to lose all that time and money i have put into the car?
why do you guys race with these types of rules? unless i'm not understanding something?
so do people that have been claimed, blow there motor before they give them up?

You wouldn't put that sort of effort into a car running in a claimer class.

It is a way to keep the performance of all the cars very even, and hence the racing very close.

It also tends to attract people who are on a tight budget, enjoy racing, but can't devote much time or money to it. If you're a serious racer, there's no way you'd want to run in a claimer class -- claimers tend to be an entry-level racing class.

The whole point is to keep the performance of the cars very even, and costs down, and it does accomplish this quite well.

Typically, the claims happen after the main event race has finished. Only a poor sport crybaby would try to sabatoge their outgoing car.

my no mean am i looking to lose my car in a claimer class, nor am i trying to become the next Michael Andretti. i want to go out have some fun, but not be 100% dedicated to the race, (student and full time job)

ITB.

But the stuff you propose is really not entry-level. That'd be a PCA GT class car, the furthest thing from entry-level.

If you seriously wish to get into racing - 944 Spec is VERY strong in AZ, you should look into either that or ITB (depending on whether you wish to run a 2.5L or a 2.0L car).

Oh, wait, I just saw you said you're a student. Nevermind, forget racing unless your parents are rich and willing to bankroll it.

Stick with autoxing for now, build the skills, and worry about racing once you've got a job and a house.
