Today is my first race day... 2- 15 lap races and then we are running 1- 25 lap feature. I hope the car makes it home in 1 piece.

Well..it came back in one piece! Since I am a rookie at racing on oval I didn't dominate the 4 stock class. I did however run right up with them but I found the car wanting to break loose quite bad on the corners.

I am hoping some of the veteran racers can help me with the set up to over come this.

First off I only weigh 941lbs on the rear of the car with the suspension still set at the stock settings...menaing it is ver high in the ass and i know I need to index the torsion bars.

How low do I want to go.

I can run stiffer springs up front.Left in particular. But will this help my rear from breaking free or make it worse. I don't want to make too many changes too soon.

Input needed.

Thanks guys

Stiffer front springs will tend to tighten the car up. You can think of it as though stiffer front springs will give you more rear traction.

Since you're running on an oval, you can do some funky stuff like running wedge (index the left and right torsion bars differently) that road course racers can't.

Sorry!

I guess that I should have said that no roadcourse racer in their right mind would want to, not that they can't!

Speak for yourself! When you've got more important turns one way than the other - why leave time on the table? Only rooks use symmetric setups!

Ok..I am just turning left on a 15 degree banked track.... so I should put my left side a bit lower then the right? Correct?

You certainly could, and get some of the LH bias desired just from that.

BUT.

I would start by getting it level front/rear, side to side, and cross the corners. THEN and only then bring the one side down.

Any limits on how far you can drop it?

I was pretty sure that, contrary to what one would expect, adding wedge so that the L/R (and correspondingly the R/F) carried more weight was the hot ticket to the LTO (Left Turn Only) crowd.

'Tis true that chassis are sometimes set up to handle assymmetrically on road courses, but I thought that was a rare event. People who actually race full sized cars can comment further on this; my experience is limited to small scale stuff which is pretty sophisticated.

No limits as to how far I can drop it. I was planning to use a set of Mustang coil springs up front like I did on my V8 porsche..they are stiff as hell. But will need to be cut down to fit.

Vaughn..when your setting the car level on all four corners...are you using the rocker panel line as your measuring point on a level floor?

I am, excluding the pinchweld, as that is easily bent and also is not considered in measurements for legality - we're restricted to min 5" ride height as measured at those rockers.

Nice to have some vid there!

Sounds like it's popping quite a bit, and seemed slow to get going... with the popping, I'd wonder if maybe it was running lean... and with the slow wind-up, can't help but wonder if your control pressure regulator is OK? Have you put gauges on it and checked it??? If not, I'd do that soon...
