Guys,
The 924 GTP was as Raceboy shows - 16 valve 2.5 litre and turbocharged. It didn't use the same head as any production 944 and likewise Porsche didn't build a 16 valve turbo 944. Even the short run of 968 turbos used the 8 valve 2.5 litre 951 engine. The engine picture that Morghen posted is not an original GTP engine.

And I'm still going to call my white 924 a "GTP" after the 2.5 liter 16valve turbo engine is in! Even though it has S head. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

That picture does look like the one I saw and agreed it does have a DOHC. Anyone else notice that the real one doesn't have nose vents?

Not 16v. Even the 968 Turbo S/RS used the 8v head. _________________ Jon Furst |

Best of all, at 1.1 bar of boost ( for endurance racing ) they put out a quoted 420 bhp, but could have the boost wound up to 1.5 bar and produce 500 bhp. Kind of beats the average production 951!

Since it's a bit OT, but.....GTP spec engine would yield 500-550 hp @ 1-1.2 bar with Garrett GT35R that I'm going to use. It will be a killer combo: generously flowing head compared to modern ball-bearing and fast-spooling turbo.
I already have all the parts needed (2.5 block, 951 pistons, S head, new stainless valves, seals, bearings, turbo etc) sans clutch. I'll use S2 flywheel (60-2 tooth ring) not 951 flywheel and I'll have to find the best 225mm (like 931) clutch available. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Don't know how it would fit but the high HP 928 racers are going back to the early 928 twin disc clutch setup.

Raceboy,
If you can build it ( and I'm pretty sure you can), then we can let you call a GTP!!! After all, I read that the P in GTP refered to prototype and I guess your motor would fit that description..... good luck with it.

yes thats right. people are confusing the 924 gtp ( with the 944 dohc turbo engine) and the 944 gtp ( with the S or S2 engine, i cant remember which.) _________________ '86 944 |

no, the picture that i posted is indeed a 944 dohc engine and i've only re-posted the picture because paul's post did not show the picture.
As i know the GTP has indeed a DOHC engine i've seen that picture and i had others with close-ups on that engine but i lost them. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

924 GTP is NOT 944 Turbo engined! This was a prototype 16valve turbo engine and none of the 924/944/968 turbocharged engines were released with 16valve heads. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp
