Need some help here gentlemen. I recently ordered a new fuel pump for my 77 1/2 924. The old pump that came off of it has a part number of 580-464-021, the new pump has a part number of 580-254-984. The new fuel pump is larger in diameter as well, and the port where the banjo bolt screws into it is too big. Is this the wrong pump for my car? Everything else on the new pump matches up correctly except for the banjo bolt fitting. Is there an adapter for this pump that will screw into the fitting and step the thread size down? Any help will be appreciated.

The new part number is correct, per my Bosch catalog, for the 77-80 924.

The old pump is wrong, it's for an 84-89 911 or 83-89 944.

Your parts guy was correct, ordered the correct part, it's that the last guy who did it was wrong. You, unfortunately, get to pay the price of his idiocy. The pump must be replaced with the right one, and the car should run much better, since that pump is for an EFI system, a CIS system has higher flow and pressure demands than EFI. It will be worth the trouble.

Sorry though, no advice about how to deal with the banjo bolt problem - I bet it's a screwup because the check valve was probably tossed when the 944 pump was put in. Did you have a hot-start problem, BTW?

I recently heard of someone here that changed their fuel pump and had to take a fitting from the old pump and use it on the new one.

I never had a hot start problem, the accumulators seemed to do their job correctly. I will see what I can do about finding or making some sort of adapter for this pump. Thanks gentlemen.
