The lights inside my car and the trunk do not come on when the drivers door is open but they do come on when the passengers door is open. Both of the lights work fine just now for the drivers door. Anyone had this problem? _________________ 1987 924S - MO30 30/19 - Yellows all around |

where is the door switch located? Is it the switch that makes the ding noise to let you know the doors open? cause if so that works, at least it makes the ding noise. _________________ 1987 924S - MO30 30/19 - Yellows all around |

Yea mine never come on with the drivers door though, but they always come on with the passenger side. Also when the key is in the ignition the warning alram noise does come on when the drivers door is open. _________________ 1987 924S - MO30 30/19 - Yellows all around |

I don't know if the 924S wiring is the same, but on my '82, the left door switch is a double-pole (DPST) design with one pole operating the light and the other pole triggering the seatbelt warning (4th page of the '82 wiring diagrams). -So it could still be a half bad switch or a problem with the wiring to half of it. Usually a simple switch like that can be taken out, cleaned with sandpaper (the contacts), lubed with silicone dielectric gel and put back together. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. In my car, the center dome light right by the windshield, has a switch, you can switch it so its always on, on when door is open and never on. It couldn't be that the light switch is in the wrong spot?
It wouldn't be unheard of that it switched itself, its happend to me. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

The switch is located in the front door jamb. It looks like a small oval metal plate with a rubber surround, held in place by a singe cross-head screw.
If your car has a door open warning alarm, the switch will be a two-pole job as Smoothie says. If you're not fussed about having a door alarm (and it's not a legal requirement where you are), you can swap the two wires at the back of the switch, but new switches are cheap and readily available, as they're used on a lot of VW cars. _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

Also some times the area corrodes a bit and the connection is not as good as it should be. Take the switch out. Wire brush the screw that is used to mount it and clear the area around the screw hole of any corrosion and such. Also any excessive paint. Clean all the wire connections and put it back in. See if it works then. I solved on that way. _________________ 1982 924
