Got a set of 7x16 fuchs for the back of my ride today.
Got a good deal to, traded two of my 6x16s for
two 7x16s. They need to go to the chromer to
get de chromed.

Powder coating shop wants 50 bucks for each wheel to dechrome..
Guess Ill try blasting first. These look so much nicer in the back
than what I have at the moment. Did a quicke search on the subject.

Sandblasting doesn't sound too freindly. I can't imagine doing that without messing up the surrounding and underneath aluminum.
What's involved in a "de-chroming"? Is it by chemical bath? (doesn't sound too freindly either) - Or some reverse electroplating process that picks off each molecule of chrome?..

The chrome is stripped with hydrochloric acid, and the underlying nickel is stripped with nitric acid. There may be copper underneath that, which probably must be stripped with a proprietary ammonia-based stripper.

Here's the Link I found & posted a couple days ago...
http://finishing.com/267/91.shtml
Since I peaked a few interests I suspect Ill be doing both
chrome removal & some type of media blasting, fine
sanding then a Lil polishing around the outside also I like the
smaller circle being painted as a accent rather then the
big circle I did If I go that way again it will be with the
smaller accent circle I'm gonna go with a tire that's not as
tall. I also got a complete 944 hatch with the bigger spoiler.
There's a hole for a windshield wiper in the hatch glass &
I don't have a wiper .... yet.

The other day I awoke to snow I could drive the
hundred miles to work and back home .. So I mulled
around the gas station then test drove the roads again
and decided it was to slippery so in short I found 2
studded 205 55 16s snow tires ... I did a quick
clean job of the 16x7s and had them put on my car in
the back I like them very much.

How about a good explain-o on the finer points of
reindexing the rear torsion bars.. Ive lowered the spring plate
and seems I need to still reindex the bars a notch or 2
to get the back low enough I
really dont know how
how many notches to go for one.. &
in what direction see those are finer points.
Yes I have a
haynes manual and a porsche pet cd to get me familiar
with all the parts involved
though I still need a little help. I replaced the rear wheel
bearings a couple yrs ago after I installed the disc brakes.

Joe, why do you have the rubber parts on the rear bumper. If you shortened the shocks you don't need them and would make the car look nicer. Unless you are using a 944 rear bumper.

Sandblasters are fussy about moisture. Make sure both the air supply and media are dry. I use air driers-filters at both ends of the air line.
Also see if the blaster came with a selection of orifices. If so, try a smaller one.
Also try shaking the blaster while shooting.

So I got 6 fuches 2 are 16x6s with no- chrome ..
(other 4 have chrome). I have some Klean-strip gel
to apply to those ..then put them in front, 16x 7s
(have flaky chrome) .. I need to buy a
good enough blaster or send them to get the chrome
removed for 100.00. Wont anodize them though cleared
and all bare aluminum.. is what I want..

Note: the harbor frieght blaster is looking like a real
easy shot to the big plastic bin. its junk I need to take it back
I dotn have the package or the reciept so the
maker is gonna eat it. Never throw money away.. never.

Its
only enjoyable if theres a chance youll win then
only marginal at best.

Got something done today I used a half of can
of Klean-strip stripX stripper on both blue
centered 16x6s in this pic. its a thick brushable
paste ... Me with sucess as it removed all the blue
and yellow under. All thats left is small quarter
sized spots of what looks like the factory silver
metalic ..the 16x7 that are umounted in the pic
now have studded snow tires on them though &
are on the back of the car ... the car is not
togethere yet soIm gonna have the chrome
removed from both itll cost $100.00. Then Im
gonna give polishing them myself with an electric
buffer. I really want to have shiny rims this go around.
