Any -body on one & at the moment has some clarity
& wants to share. Go for it.

I know I used to enjoy drinking whisky (Beams or Jacky D.)
like it was water..though vodka worked also though if you really
want to get into the dirt ever-clear or moonshine works..
or Seagram's 7.

I know the germans have some good drinks
I was able to attend a German Christmas party once in Frankfurt
it was quite exciting wish I knew the name of that stuff though it
was some kind of clear pear flavored paint removal. Talk about an attitude
adjustment.

You haven't seen drinking until you've been to Amsterdam. I had the (mis)fortune of working on a project there this past summer. Right on Dam Square (I stayed at hotel Krasnapolsky). Right behind the church on Dam Square is the Three Barrels. The place has been there for over 350 years!!!

Genever (aka. Dutch Gin) is the national liquor of Holland. It is a full-flavored type of gin distilled from a mix of 1/3 barley, 1/3 rye and 1/3 corn. The flavor comes from a high proportion of malted barley. The malted barley (moutwijn) is triple distilled, and in the third distillation the aromatic ingrediets (juniper berries, anise, spices and herbs) are added. High quality Genever must contain 5 percent or more of this malted barley.

Anyway, I digress. Back to the Three Barrels. As I said, this place has been operating for 350 years. One wall of the pub is floor to ceiling barrels. Each barrel can be leased by a patron. There's a 30 year waiting list to lease your own private barrel. Lessees get to choose whatever beverage they want, and the Three Barrels keeps their private stash stocked at all times. To put it mildly, it is an honor you can't refuse to be given the opportunity to tap someone's private stash.

There were eight of us present. Each draw on the tap fills the pitcher with enough genever for two shots for everyone. Oh, and by the way, when you drink genever, you don't sip it. The traditional method is to put both hands behind your back, place the shot on the edge of the barrel, encircle the glass with your lips, tip it back, slam it down, swallow, and set the glass back on the barrel with your lips, all the time leaving your hands firmly grasped behind your back.

Well, this client insisted on giving the other 7 of us the distinct honor of tapping his barrel. So figure it out. 16 shots of genever, plus two 20-oz beers to chase it down for good measure, all in about 2 hours. And yes, this was bonafide Dutch beer too, a full 15% alcohol by volume, not the watered down brew we drink here in the states.

Thank God for the Bitterballen and cheese. I'd've never made it out of there without something to absorb it all! Suffice it to say, that is the most (and strongest) alcohol I've ever consumed in one sitting...er, standing...er, staggering...well, you get the idea.

I occasionally (since it's $170 per bottle) like to sip on the Johnny Walker Blue. It's damn good scotch and it's a good thing it costs that much or I might have myself a problem.

I saw Khal try to binge once. Didn't work out so well though. Seems Aussies have a slightly lower tolerance for liquor than Native Americans. How sad.
On a lighter note, he and the dog are back on speaking terms.

hey ideola,

greetings from Schnaps und Korn country.
The strongest liquid i had was in Alaska/Usa in a town called Hyder.
Inside you can get officially "Hyderized" which happens in a short but effective procedure.
The bartender fills a waterglass with water and another one with a clear-roaring-something.Then he puts his finger into the alc. draws a line onto the bar and puts it on fire.
He tells you to drink up both glasses before the fire burnt down, if you dont manage it you have to leave the bar. If you do, you get a certificate and may drink further.

Morghen, that's czech-style absinth. . .(reputedly) nasty! You should try the real thing.

This stuff is recommended as high quality but reasonable cost:
