|

So, yesterday a sound cropped up that I had heard I think twice before, but never for more than a few seconds. While the car is in gear, the clutch is engaged, and I'm accelerating (may be present while not accelerating but not audible), there is a "clunk...clunk...clunk..clunk..clunkclunkclunk" sound that increases in rapidity with speed (not rpm), and volume with level of acceleration. So I'm gonna take a guess and say it's one of the CV joints?
Checked the CV joints in the rear, and all 4 boots were pliable, tear free and dry, so maybe my guess was off, or could there still be a problem in there?
Oh, several times during the day I drove the sound away through heavy acceleration; the sound would be relatively loud, I'd punch it, and it would be gone. The sound would be gone until I had been cruising at ~60 for a while and then went back into traffic. This was only earlier in the day, and completely stopped later on.
Oh well, ideas?
PS - This car is so lucky I love it so much, or I woulda kicked it to the curb ages ago. _________________ 1987 924S: Very much in love with it, even if it's all finnicky |

| Have you check the differential, I am having the same problem. The sound went away for a while when i change the oil for the differential, but it is coming back, not as loud as before but something for sure is that i can't accelerate how i used to anymore. If you guys have any suggestion for us, it would be nice |

Wow this one was lost without an answer for a while, eh?
On the CVs going bad while the boots are still good - yes, they wear and start clunking either way, but much quicker and with added problems (rust plus wear caused by grit) if the boots are split. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Haha, good to know, but try figuring this one out: As soon as the new balance shaft belt went on, never had this problem again. Car ran smooth as butter. _________________ 1987 924S: Very much in love with it, even if it's all finnicky |
