Yeah, I tend to agree.
I'm a little lost with this one. What exactly is it you want, Keaton?
Have you got your heart set on an engine transplant? Are you a hot-rodder? (I have no problem with that, not implying it's a bad thing, just wondering)
Or do you just want your 924 to have more power?
The reason I ask is that it's dead-set simple, relatively speaking, to make a pretty hi-po 924... you just buy a 931 and add an intercooler and up the boost. It's been done many times by members here. It works and it's relatively cheap and easy. Buying a 931 and doing this upgrade will probably be cheaper overall than doing an engine swap in your NA 924.
And you've mentioned previously that there's some sentimental value in your car. That being the case, I'm surprised you're so willing to consider butchering it...

You can't just dump a 300+ hp engine into a 924! You'll get yourself killed!
Well, actually, probably not 'cause you'll tear the drivetrain to shreds before you get anywhere...
But God help you if you do actually get the thing rolling

Actually, do a search for posts by 925turbo on the board.
He was a board member from Sweden, he put a 10v turbo 5 cylinder in his 924. It required a bit of custom fabrication on the exhaust, IIRC, but he believed that a DOHC 20v 5 cylinder would clear the intake and exhaust without issues, as it is a crossflow motor. He had to fabricate his own motor mounts as well.
As for EFI, gonig from one Audi CIS engine to another is not a big deal wiring wise. I'd get teh CIS engine running in the car and work out the mechanical issues before messing around with management and tuning.
Looking at the 20v, I'm not sure if the stock wastegate would clear easily, you might still need to make a new exhaust manifold.

You could change the heads and mate a 10v block with the 20V head, but its some work.

If you want to go 20vt, try to find a complete 20vt engine, or do the hybrid thing with an NG (10v NA, 1988-1991) bottom end bolted to the 20v head, and then tune. The CIS is said to be good for 300hp as well.
The 20v head and 10v NG block together will yield around a 7.5-8.0:1 CR, and the NG bottom end is strong enough to hold 300hp if you tune it carefully enough (maybe more, the rods and pistons are not up to Audi turbo standards). Of course you can replace these as well.
The MCII should be able to make 300hp easily with either standalone EFI (and stock ignition with a chip), or carefully tuned CIS .
A 10vt is nearly indestructable, only limited on power by the fueling system, turbo, and the head. Motorgeek, is the place to get into the go fast options for the 10vt or other audi setups.
