Hi guys,
I have just joined the forum - I raced this year in the UK 924 championship and managed 4th place in my first year.
I am now aiming to win it next year and want my car to be spot on as far as possible!
We have fairly strick regulations on what we can and cannot do, so I need to be specific, but does anybody know...
Where I can obtain a quick rack?
Where I can get pistons and rings - oversized/forged etc etc?
Any other performance tips from fellow racers?
My personal website is www.crazyduck.co.uk and my championship one is www.porscheracingdrivers.co.uk if anybody is interested.
My very strick regulations can be found here:
http://www.brscc.co.uk/championships/regulations/Porsche%20924%20Championship%20Regs%202005.pdf
If anybody needs any help/advice from me let me know - I have done most things allowed to the racecar already so I have a pretty good understanding of what to do.

Welcome to the forum!! I am so jealous that there is an actual 924 series! I think there are less than 50 of us who currently race the 924 in the US.
My father and I race a couple of 924's and one of them is #53 on the home page of this website.
We have had a lot of growing pains to build two races cars from scratch and I would not recommend doing it unless you have A LOT of patience and money. We are excited that 2006 will be a much better year for us and can't wait for the first event.
Going over to your side of the pond early next year and I will keep my eyes peeled for some much needed parts. I am very interested in some used euro spec pistons. Do you know how I can go about gettin them or are they hard to find?
In America I would try to contact Paeco Industries http://www.paeco.com/ as they have an impressive number of 924 engine parts and can probably help you fill your request
Send me a PM if you can help! _________________ Jeremy "I'm Faster than My Dad" Jadczak

Sounds like tons of fun.
1 - Can you show us pictures?
2 - Try the search at the top to find what you're looking for. {Others will post the info you request}
3 - Can you list the specs. of you car?
Paeco seems to be a very popular place indeed. |

Bwahaahaa!!! Welcome, guys...
The other location I'd add for pistons/rings would be JE pistons via EBS Racing in Nevada; you may have a distrubutor for those closer to home. spendy, but very nice pieces. For ring, stock replacement Deves seem to be readily available and good. OTOH, I'm currently running "gapless" Total Seal rings (also purchased from EBS).
I'd have to review what you're allowed to do in your rulebook; Jeremy and I race in the same Improved Touring class, and we're not allowed very much in the way of engine work. Mostly it's balancing and blueprinting, still have to use stock cam, so that's about what we do. The engine certainly benefits well from the balancing. I've even played with bearing clearances to get as much free-spinning as I can, and it isn't hurting (though I still have to pull my pan and check my bearings after the first year running like that - 2005).
The other big thing, which you may have already addressed, is oiling. The engine's definitely happier with lots of cooling (I'm using a big one, 24-row I think, it's 8.5"x11", survived hard racing and winning races in ambient temps this summer up to 95+ degF without cooling issues). Recording the radiator isn't a bad idea too. Addition of an Accusump is also recommended; I also added a crank scraper from www.crankscrapers.com, pretty cheap, not hard to fit, and should help slightly both with controlling oil flow and improving power output. The way it fits into our pan, it functions also as a baffle to restrict oil from flowing up the side of the block on long left-handers (which it will do, if left to it's own devices) and reducing oil pressure and maybe even starving the bearings.
I'll get back with you if I come up w/ anything more after looking at the rulebook... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Thanks Neil!
I now have the car up in the air ready to start working - I am about to drop the rear torsion tube, to replace the stock 22mm torsion bars with solid OEM 25.5mm ones from a 944 Turbo/968. Has anybody got any tips on how to set the new bars up - i.e, the splines for the ride height!
Also, do you guys know where I may be able to get a quick rack? - there used to be a company in the UK that made them, but they went bust years ago and I cannot find an old rack of theirs at all! - maybe its the same as another VW part?
Pictures of car up in the air with in bits will follow soon!

Practice. make some templates you can use to make sure you get them even, left-to-right, and make sure you have the ride height eccentrics centered before measuring. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Thanks for the fast respnse!
I am replacing the eccentrics too, so I will make sure they both start at the same position (my rear end is pretty corroded so I got new nuts/bolts etc).
Makes sense though - thanks again.

Hi there
I'm a friend of Dave Dennett's. I use the 924 in the uk speed championship, its a bit too modified to race!
TAS used to do the quick rack kits for your car.
Cheers
