|
|
I'm in the proccess of installing my stereo(has come to be a 2week endeavor) and i think im going to put my subwoofer in the hole for the spare tire.
I plan on grinding off the mounting braket for the tire and seal the hole in the bottom, then either fiberglass or just put some sound-deadening material (maybe dynamat) in the hole. Mount the subwoofer to a board of MDF, and have the terminal on the top of the board, run a sealant around the top of the hole and bolt it down. Theres a few missing steps, but i believe i can do it, and do it nicely.
just wondering if anyone has thought of this or even succeeded. Oh and if anyone has good places to buy subwoofer covers, i will need one if i am mounting the sub on the floor.
Thanx _________________ late 1979 porche 924, red 2.0l NA 5speed snailshell

I suggest if your going to place it there you might not have enough room to run more than a 10 inch" if your lucky...
You might consider running two 8" in isobaric operation if you can't fit the 10 inch....
Just don't put the amp in there if your going for a sealed box as it needs to breath.

i plan on making custom panels that mount vertically on the sides of the trunk. I am bi-amping my car so i will have one on each side. with the subwoofer in the middle. _________________ late 1979 porche 924, red 2.0l NA 5speed snailshell

Wow.. I'm really impressed with all those installs.. Thumbs up to you guys. You've just inspired me to slow my car down some(add some extra weight of sub).
Dynomat the entire rear, and re-carpet it with some custom carpet.. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

I bet removing the rear seat and putting in a sub or two and amps would end up keeping the weight pretty similar. _________________ Mike

I really was weary about removing the back seat, but does ANYBODY use it? I might end up just taking it out. And if i take it out, it still wont offset the wieght of my sub (70-80 lbs)and my amps (10 lbs each)
If someone can show me how to get a picture posting site i will post pics of my install. Right now im making custom enclosures for my 6x9's that will be going were the old 4x6's were next to the back seat. I'll make sure to document the subwoofer enclosure and my amp mounting, Plus the custom enclosure's in the door pockets, im gonna put 5 1/4in the door pockets (the 6x9s were toooo big). _________________ late 1979 porche 924, red 2.0l NA 5speed snailshell

People occasionally use my rear seats actually heh, I feel bad for my friends. About a month ago 3 of us drove up to Toledo to see my other friend, and none of us have a 4 door sedan or something like that. One has an S-10, no extended cab, the other's got a mazda MX-3...I've already riden in that backseat for 3 hours. It was about a 2 hour drive and my buddy had to ride in the backseat, he's about 6'1", it was a nice day so we just took the sunroof off heh. The drive home is a whole different story, but I'll leave it at, I occasionally use my back seat. Plus I love the way they look! _________________ Mike

I have a friend that is 4'9" and she fits back there nicely, she actually prefered sitting in the rear seat, and when she sat in the front I had to have my coat folded up for her to sit on as she couldnt see out the window. _________________ 3 928s, |
