I have a 1981 turbo 5 speed transmission in need of Synchromesh repairs & wish to do it myself. Have you done one ? Any pitfalls for the unwary ?Can I get the parts cheaper elsewhere like Audi or VW ? What is the best source of workshop repair information ?

I just had 4 synchros done...the cost is about $150 CDN and there's no cheap route. But it IS worth the money...it saves gears and the gears are no less than $1400 CDN EACH.

Hey Rick,
Can you let me know the name and address of your synchro repair guy? I've got one to do and I'll pull the trannie and send it to him. $150CAN. sounds very reasonable.

I have done the synchro rings in the Snailshell on my '80 931 twice over the years. It is fairly straight forward. The hardest part is getting the transmission in and out.
