Yes, that's the thing! Bought it as a daily driver for wife. It wasn't running, cause was differential failure (common), and transmission including torque tube and clutch were toast. Luckily I have one '81 924 NA for parts, and after two days of hard work, the car was running fine.
Now the important stuff...
Person, from who I bought the car, was the original owner of the vehicle, and had all the documentary and service books available. Car had sit for 8 years, and from 1983 to date had run ONLY 123 000 km Almost everything is in great shape, including electrics and engine (even the dash isn't carcked). And the price he asked me (obviously I paid it ), was 15 000 EEK (~1200$US).
One failure I did notice was that only hot air is coming from the heater fan, no cold air, whatever the position of the lever...

Don't run the engine anymore, until after you have the front of engine service performed (timing and balance shaft belts, waterpump, front of engine oil seals, belt pulleys and rollers).
If the belts have not been changed in eight years (or more), they are ready to fail right now.
It would be a shame to make a great deal, then lose the engine because of defreed maintenance. |

But that's an ROW '83, not an S - should have the usual non-interference 2.0L, no balance shafts, etc. - right? _________________ Vaughan Scott

Yeah, you're right, I missed the 924 part. The failed differential thing also threw me.
Differential failure is not common in 924 cars. It is very common in 951 and 944S models, and has been known to happen on occasion in 944 cars. Not on 2.0L engined 924 cars. They just don't make enough power to create powertrain problems. |

Yeah, it happened to my first 924NA too, about 7 years ago, and what happened, was that a shaft of the sattleites, inside differential, slided so much due to a spline failure when rotating that it hit the teeth on the gearbox main shaft. Did you understand? I was drivinf about 100km/h (65mph) and suddenly the rear wheels just blocked.... Uhh, that was a shock
But in case of that new white 924, everything behind engine was toast: pilot bearing did not exist, and obviously ruined TT, TT-s bearings were worn out, clutch bellhousing was in three pieces... , final drive was missing 12-13 teeth. Only CV joints were OK. Installed everything new, but the real PITA was the pilot bearing. I know they're hard to get out of the crank even when OK, but this was only part of the sleeve there. It took about 2 hours for me to break it and not to hurt cranksaft

Sounds as tho your heater valve is jammed open if you only get hot air from the heater. You need a rear wiper arm and blade too. Car looks nice..tidy interior etc. Those wheels are very pretty..what are they? _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)

Oh, sorry, I fixed the heater valve thing, it was because of the loose lever.
Wheel are Borbet 7.5x17" with 225/45 GoodYear Eagle F1 GS-D2 tyres, 20mm spacers front and 50mm spacers rear.
I have 944 front valance and one I-don't-know from rear skirt too but they need repainting. Gonna do it all together with sideskirts. All white. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Yes, fenders are rolled, after rolling them 2-3 times, no more rubbing

| Did you do the tach switch or was that the way it was? How much trouble did you have re-routing the speedo cable? I just couldn't get mine to work; the gauge wouldn't sit right because the cable wouldn't fit around the steering wheel support bracket. Any tricks you can share? |

Nothing special really, just had to re-route the cable starting right from the firewall. IMO, looks much better, having info about the revs is more important and it's kinda "more Porsche-like"  _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp
