I had a similar problem a while ago. Turned out to be the coil. Replaced that and all was well.

If coil is weak = weak spark = black, fouled plugs = no power and petrol smell on plugs

If the mustang spacers have a center bore of 63.4mm the won't be hubcentric as the 924 hub is 57mm diameter. You would need a spigot ring that converts from 63.4mm to 57mm to correct this.

Starter motor not that hard to do really - 2 big bolts if i recall correcty.. Heatshields though...

You need flexible hands and arms to do them and a combination of spanners and extended sockets ...

You'd be cutting a lot of the existing arch and body panel away though! Not sure how rigid the remaining metal would be.

Plus you may lose the inner arch. Keeping the outer and inner arch stuck tog ...
