I used Zircotec self adhesive film for chassis rail and strut tower to avoid paint bubbling with heat of the manifold and turbo. Didn't bother with anything around waste gate area or firewall

If it's a later Audi Transaxle a 944 short shifter will work. Not for the snailshell though

The guy is in Germany and posted in turbo section. So one can assume its G31 and not Audi box? ....... Ro ...

You can cut and weld the existing shifter to change the pivot point distance to reduce the throw and retain existing gear knob.

All mine seem to have this sparkly crystalline stuff on them,

The dry plastic as a sparkly element to them, certainly on the 3 sets I have if I allow any surface treatments to fully wash off.

All guess work until its proven on the dyno.......... which I did and hit 268bhp estimated to crank, limiting to 6000rpm, 1.1bar, and fuel delivery of circa 360cc/min. Probably could have gotten more ...

From my experience your butt cannot tell the difference between 200 and 250rwhp. Both feels quick in a 924.
