Well removing the windshield isn't an easy job but can be done by yourself. You will need to get a windshield removal tool I got my at a local car paint store for $18 and it works great, Ask Joe I took the one out I sold him. You'll have to remove all the trim from around the windshiled inside and out. Don't remove the windshield blocks until you have cut the whole seal. And becareful not to rush or force the winshield depending on how old the car is, the seal maybe hard and very difficult. Good Luck _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |

kaffine << Keep us posted about the flush mounting thing (like the 944, right?) 'coz I bet most of us are interested in this.
Regards

The blocks you are talking about are the ones at the base of the windsheild on the outside held on by screws?
Yes I'm trying to get it flush like the newer 944. Hopefully I will be able to get it out over winter break. I'm not sure when I will get it put back together since I have to pay for school hopefully late january or early febuary. _________________ 80 924

An old post that I just bump, couse I need a new windshield...
And then I saw this post. Has this been done? What kind of parts are needed for this, and are the windshields the same on 924 and 944? _________________ -=Torro=- |

Just get a standard 924 windshield and ask your local glass person install it with a generic rubber molding.
I had mine done this way and I am very happy with the results!

That actually looks quite good Porschev.
Eliminates the bugs getting under the trim too!
New windscreens are fairly innexpensive (Au$ 110) if you shop at independent suppliers and fit it yourself.
They are laminated and must be manufactured to appropriate standards. The 924 one I purchased was also listed for 944, so I assume they are identical.
Like most modern windscreens they are bonded in with a polyurethane sealant (sikaflex). Not really difficult but it is messy shit and must be worked quickly.
Porschev proves the alternative works and looks original so that may be the easier option.

Everyone do yourself a favor and don't attempt to take out or install a windshield. They are extrememly brittle. The slightest chip will crack it. Ask me how I know.

Hmm.. I've taken out three in the past six months. Once I got the aluminum trim retaining clips out - grrr, I used a guitar string (tied to two wooden handles like a garrotte) and worked it around and cut the glue seal.
I have another to take out soon and I just bought the professional glass installer's removal tool. I'll probably screw that one up.
