thanks, everyone, for the advice. I have a week long "mandatory vacation" coming up in 2 weeks, so I will take it apart and see what I find out.
it does take a little longer to start, and I think a spring or head gasket problem could be the problem given the circumstances. I will do a complete leakdown and compression check before tearing into it. If all is OK there, I'll look at the ignition module.

the flywheel sensor may be the culprit but I'm not convinced that you don't have a bad plug wire or a plug.

Run the engine at night and look for arcs. The bad componet may be building resistance and discharging at random.

What might help and I'll listen to the file again is to define the miss. What is the interval and duration and the effect on the engine. If it is quick it has to be electrical, if it is slow it could be a fuel problem on one injector leg.

Jiggle the flywheel sensor. IS the rotor new and does it have good contact to the shaft and is the distributer well grouded and clean of any rust or dirt?

Ummmm, have you done a vaccum test? Have you checked your vaccum hoses? Although I dont have a turbo, I have plenty of problems with old hoses coming off or cracking. I am now 90% done replacing and taking off unnecceassary(great spelling?) hoses and contraptions. Hope it helps...
