I posted earlier threads on this, all the info is right there. I also have the email address of the guy who did this, and I might be able to get him to answer any questions I can't.
There are two basic types of Audi 5 cylinder. There are the SOHC and DOHC. The SOHC have the intake and exhaust manifolds on the right side, and it's quite difficult to make them fit. You need to fabricate a new exhaust manifold, and it's not really worth the time.
The DOHC 20 valve, or 20V as it's referred to by the Audi crowd, has a crossflow cylinder head, with the exhaust on the right side, and the intake on the left side. They have been known to produc 400hp or more in S cars, and they have the broadest powerband I have ever seen. Peak torque at 1950 rpm, peak horsepower at 6000 rpm, and a redline of 7000rpm I think.
The 20V is supposed to bolt right in, the only details that have to seen to are fabricating new motor mounts, and a new oil pan to clear the front crossmember. From what I have been told, you should be able to bolt a 931 or 944 bellhousing directly to the Audi engine, and use combination Audi/Porsche clutch.

It's been quite a while since I've heard from 925Turbo, the guy who did that swap. Last time I talked to him, he was studying in Australia, and planning a 20V swap. That was more than a year ago though...
Basically, he had to fabricate his own motor mounts, and use a Porsche clutch disc with the Audi pressure plate and flywheel, if I recall correctly. When he did the 10V swap, he had to fabricate an exhaust manifold as well, because there was not nearly enough room on the right hand side of the engine.
He told me this would not be an issue with the 20V motor however.
The 5 cylinder is not considerably longer than the 2.0, so it's basically just a matter of making the motor mounts and picking the right clutch combination.
Here is the original thread, including what the guy who did the swap wrote to me.

Thats a shame about the stock exhaust manifold not fitting... a custom manifold really ups the ante when building a low budget car.

I think the 20V swap is definately the way to go. It doesn't require much in the way of fabrication, and is a largely bolt in swap.
It is pretty pricey though, around $2K and up depending on where you get it. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

Cbass,
Do you have any more detail on the 20v swap?
Cheers,
