Is it possible just to remove a section of the wiring harness? Mainly the section that control the head lights and the instrument lights. I traced my problem to that and on the underside of the harness was completed cook. I didn't even notice it until I started messing around with the wiring. Any help out there??? |

of course. The different sections are usually taped together, especially under the dash. Just take your time and only remove as much tape as you have to to split the section from other sections it may be taped to. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

If you are asking if one or more sections of the wiring harness can be removed, and replaced without affecting other sections, yes, as long as you don't knock anything else loose while you are down there.
What year is your are, many of the people on this board probably have extra wiring harness parts in storage that would fit your needs and cost less than you could buy them from Porsche or from a salvage yard.
Personally, I have most of the harness from a 80 931 that was stripped to make a race car. |

I have a 1982 The only section that was affected I think is the headlight. I have a new headlight switch, well used headlight switch from the junk yard. I'm in the process of pealing back the wire cover to see what else is affected and so far all I see is 4 wire that have melted together.
Question? Does the fire wall plug come out as one peice or do I have to cut it to remove that section of the harness? If I cut it, is it easy to replace with something? |

The headlight swit5ches are not all the same, and neither are the wiring harnesses from different year cars.
Do you have a 82 924 NA?. I can check to see if what I have is compatible. I won't cut open a wiring harness section, you would have to take to whole part as it unplugs. |

If I remember right,
If someone added a headlight relay, the 81 and 82 931 don't require one. When you have the relay there it will smoke/melt the switch and the wiring.
Be careful and get the correct wire and relay map for that year, don't trust Haynes or Chiltons, or Porsche on the general info sections. _________________ Bob Dodd - 924turbo@cox.net

To late! I already cut open that part of the wiring harness to see how many wires were burnt. I didn't remove it from the relay board as of yet. The thing is hard to get to. I don't know what a NA is? I just know this is an 82 turbo. |

I went out to the garage and sorted out the wiring harness from the Turbo that I had sitting in a box.
Sorry, the headlight switch is there, but the connectors and associated wiring have been chopped off where they merge into the main portion of the harness. The plug that connects to the fuse block is still there. |

Update to wiring harness, all wires are sliced in Except one red/yellow that I'm still trying to chase out from under the dash. Still have about 7 wires to resolder in to the light switch but not until I trace out the 1 wire. |
