Under the distributor is the coolant flange.
screwed into that is the TTS and temp guage.
Both very hard to see and get to.
If you look in the how-to section there is a pictorial on replacing the motor which has a good picture of the back of the head.
The temp guage wire should be on the blue guage. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

it is a round connector like the head of a nail- you can fit the wire from any direction. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

As Ozzie says...however, the wire in your picture appears to be missing the required female spade adapter, which makes fitment a whole lot easier _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I would like to replace the coolant temperature sensor as a first step to getting my temperature gage to work. My Haynes manual does not appear to include "and turbo" as part of the process to access and replace this sensor. Can anyone list the most straightforward steps to take? Thanks. |

It's no different turbo vs. NA.
It's hiding at the back of the head; pain to see/get access to, but not much you can do about that.
Removing the distributor would give good visibility, but then you'd have to fight with the timing to get the engine restarted after. I'd suggest removing the ignition coil instead; not as good visibility, but easy to remove and reinstall without trouble for restarting.
Once you can see it/put a socket on it, pretty straightforward. Maybe drain out coolant to avoid spills, then just disconnect the lead, unscrew the old one, screw in the new and reconnect the lead.
Things to consider while you're back there; you could replace the two twisted little coolant hoses to the heater core. Removing one or both will definitely improve access to the temp sender. But make sure you can source replacements first; I recall hearing they're now hard to come by. _________________ Vaughan Scott
