My 924S speedo (I think the same internally as early cars) started to click and bounce, especially in cold weather. It would have a loud rhythmic click or pop and a big jump of the needle. I pulled the instrument panel, pulled the gauge, took the housing off (google the procedure) and had a look. It ran fine with a small drive square bit on my cordless drill, but I looked further. Sorry I didn't take pictures but will describe as best I can. It appeared the first driven shaft off the cable had some play. The shaft rides on a rectangular white nylon extension from the guage internals. There was wear to the nylon from the shaft. I took a thin piece of brass stock I had and I made it into a square corned U shape (three sides of a rectangle) that fit very snugly to the rectangular piece of nylon the shat turns on. A bushing if you will. Put some lithium grease on the moving bits, buttoned it all back up, no more click, no more bounce.
Kind of a poor write up, but may be of help to someone. _________________ 88 924S
