Dear friends -

My close friends 944 led me away. I planned to keep my 931 forever, but my longing for a nice 944 S or Turbo forced me to sell it - but it went to a guy who truly loved it and will care for it in Chapel Hill, NC.

And then, after a long time searching - led by my close Porsche genius friend Rick, and getting red flags on 3 cars I was ready to purchase, he sent me this incredible 944 S an hour after it hit the internet. I immediately reached the owner (last 19 years) who had just put a fortune in it doing EVERYTHING and gave him his asking price.

Flew to Columbus, OH Friday to pick it up and was stunned to find car far better than my wildest dreams. Drove it home 500 miles Friday, flawless, used no oil w/about 150k miles on it. This is an almost Concours car inside and out and I could not be more pleased. 5 minor things to fix, that's it. Drives & looks like a new car, paint mostly original. Always garaged, owner never took it out in winter. A dream car.

I cannot thank all of you here enough for your help and patience with me in restoring my 931 and getting it running like new. You all are the best and I'll miss you guys.

That's a really nice car! Too bad you had to let the 931 go, but at least the forum still has my identical (although much rougher) car to pick up the standard (hopefully soon; waiting to get the turbo back, along with a raft of other parts). And I don't think anyone's going to have a problem if you post now and then, even if you're borderline too cool for school in a 944... At least you didn't go totally upper-crust and buy a 911... Kidding of course - that for-for looks like it's worth every penny, and I hope it keeps on giving!

Yes, very accurate. I don't want to leave. But fell in love with the later 944 S.....no turbo to worry about, a 190hp NA dual overhead cam 16valve engine that even with 150k miles on it uses no oil.

Please forgive.....being a mechanic for almost 60 years, I think I got beyond being potty-trained - maybe middle school? The help from all here was superb.

PS: 911? Never. I'm a mid-engine or transaxle guy only. My friend Rick has all 3: 914, 944, 911 SC. I don't care for either the looks or the handling of the 911........but have no problem with 911-lovers. I'm just not one.

Well I have 931, 951 and 911. Guess which handles best?
931 & 951 lack the sound of the flat6. 4 cylinders in a line cannot sound right.
Other than that I love these I4 cars

I have to admit, if I were a rich man, I'd have at least one 911. The 993 turbo is a car I remember lusting over as a teenager, so that might be the one. Really, the only thing I have against the 911 is some of the owners (probably a minority) who love to poo-poo the 914, 924, 944, etc. Anything that's not rear-engine isn't a "real" Porsche, never mind if that makes it actually handle better ("the 911 is better because it's worse!" they'll come within an inch of saying). I like the 924 for being a very non-obvious choice, but I'd have to agree with kondzi about the sound: the flat-six soundtrack would be the first thing I'd want to lift from the 911 if I could.

Just as I love the sound of my 987.2 S with Softronic ECU remap for 355+ hp! Nothing like it!

And the Cayman S will outhandle both my 914 and 944......

Just sold my Cayman and i kept my 924.
That flat6 sounds glorious indeed and handles...well simply perfect, especially with the suspension upgrade i've added to it.

However my 924 2L sounds pretty good for a 4 banger even without the supercharger. And i've added a pretty good suspension setup to it as well.

To me, my supercharged 924 with this suspension upgrade is more fun to drive than the Cayman.
Its not faster, its not better, its more rewarding and honestly...the sound of the supercharged 924 competes with the flat6 in my books.

My favorite is the 993 C2, in my opinion the best Porsche you can ever get.
