Hi all,

my n/a's Audi gearbox sits on my indy's bench for a re-seal.

I managed to order all seals, o-rings and stuff that comprise the repair kit 477 300 912A with the exception of one, namely 088 301 699 A which is unavailable anywhere in Europe.

In the technical FAQ it says this o-ring isn't critical but still - can anyone either specify dimensions or a known-to-fit alternative?

I saw this part available in the US, but shipping costs and leadtime deter me from ordering. The loaner gearbox makes such a noise that I'd rather have my own back ASAP.

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Cheers,

Eliza

Is it a simple oring? Can you measure it and buy a generic one?

Like Cedric mentioned, you might be able to size it and find one closer to home, rather than going through the trouble and expense of getting the OE one. An auto parts store would be the place to start. I'm not sure what they're like over there, but here in the US, some stores carry a lot of bits and pieces like that, while others don't. The next place would be a hydraulic supply shop. They usually have big assortments of o-rings and might be able to match it up. Then there are also kits that allow you to make virtually any size of o-ring; it might take some hunting, but hopefully there's a shop near you that has a match or could make one.

I look for and can usually find a generic replacement over buying OE o-rings (unless there's a kit: then the cost is usually close enough to not be worth sizing and buying generic o-rings). Now and then there's an o-ring that's a real oddball, but a good hydraulic shop should know if it's something they can't match up. Measurements of the o-ring groove would be helpful too, since the old o-ring is probably swelled.

I ran into the same problem when I was refreshing the seals on my gearbox. I measured the o-ring and the shaft that it sits on and came to the conclusion that 34,59x2,62mm was the closest fit.

I've been running that o-ring for a couple of seasons now without any issues.

This doesn't surprise me since this converts to a DASH 126 O-ring

In my line of work I have discovered that German Companies use these DASH numbers from time to time.

DASH Number O-rings further confuse because there is a published size and actual size. Your above numbers are the 'actual' for DASH 126

Easily found even on eBay
