Today,
I took my new to me 88 Porsche 924s to get smogged. It did not pass, according to smog tech, carbon too high. He then then told me that he saw that on the cat, next to sensor there is a brass bolt / cap that has a hole on top. He told me that because of this, it could up "screwed up" testing numbers. He also told me that he thinks possibly that gas in car might not be 91 high octane gas, this could also give non passing smog numbers. He recommended for me to put high octane additive in remaining fuel in tank. He then told me to run two tank fulls of 91 octane and bring it in to get smogged again after driving the car a while. Do you recommend for me to use product, guaranteed to pass smog? I bought this car out of state. On car fax, it shows car passed smog all the time. Kind of annoying. I can't get insurance on car until I have car transfered to my name through the DMV, I can't do this without have car pass smog. So basically I need to drive the car around with title in my name and no insurance. Sounds right? Never bought a car out of state before. Ger. |

You could drain your tank pretty easy by disconnecting the S-line that goes from the tank to the pump. Fill the tank up with 91 octane, drive it a bit which would get all the low octane out of the system. Then see if it passes emissions.
The second hole you talked about is for a California sensor of some sort. Sorry, but I don't know anything about it since I live in Colorado but I think it is to help with the California emissions. Maybe someone else on the board might be able to help.
