Does anyone know if the AIT sensor near the throttle can be wires to gauge to get readings?

I just put a modern sensor in that spot which I knew would work accurately with the gauge. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

what thread is that? and what about the factory wiring, what did you do about that? _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

Why would you want such a gauge?
Realistically speaking, what do you think it will serve you achieve? _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Don't recall. I just re tapped it to standard 1/8 NPT as thats the most popular sensor thread.
There was no factory wiring to worry about on S1 RoW car. The S1 TB was swapped out to S2 version when building and modifying the engine + intakes _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

I thought about doing it, should be a fairly reasonable process. But you need to have a pull up resistor to get the voltages to get in the correct range (0-5v like most loggers have), and use the characterisation for the sensor. But for a non configurable stand alone guage a new sensor has to be fitted. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Good way to check intercooler efficiency.... _________________ Toofah King Bad

As noted elsewhere, better to use a temp sensor installed on the charge tubes, not the intake, due to heat soak.
When I MS'd my car, I tried to use the stock sensor. After much frustration, I came to the conclusion it was not functional! Might in part relate to some of my running issues.
So I'd be disinclined to try to use the original sensor, or that location. I left mine in to plug the hole, and welded a new NPT bung for a modern sensor on the charge tube after the IC.
Maybe some day I'll get around to putting a sensor before the IC too. Though right now, I first have to get a working starter in my car (the fancy aftermarket gear reduction one died from sitting in my driveway all winter) and replace the piston rings... yay. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Yes, the OEM TB location does heat soak when throttle is closed......but does register the correct temp as soon as reopened....... AIT is mostly critical when throttle is open and on boost anyhow.
Agree boost tube is best....but that hole in the TB was easier to use. I have too much junk on the boost tube already
AIT post IC is more critical than pre. But still nice to know if that IC is doing its job _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

as for Pre- wouldn;t it be just about the same to use a simple Outside Air temp gauge? _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

How? Why?
Air temp post turbo is way higher than ambient air temp. You also need the same AIT sensor pre IC as post to run a gauge. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Sorry I read that wrong. thought you were taking about turbo inlet temp, Not intercooler. _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |
