1980 931

So, as the title suggests, I removed the dash for restoration. That was about 2 years ago (life...) and I'm now trying to get everything back. I bagged things up nicely like hardware, etc... but for the wiring, I am unsure exactly what goes where.

I KNOW I absolutely should have taken photos of each step, and I'm kicking myself for that right now.

But does anyone have photos of the console wiring, speaker wires, clock, boost gauge, lights, etc?

I just want to try and piece together what goes where, and get some things known and plugged in, then, after that I think I can start asking specific questions about specific wires.

ANY help at all would be incredible!

No pics but you should first lay put the wiring about where it seems logical it wil go and work your way from there. Basically everything should just reach and fit perfectly so maybe have the instruments and stuff placed as well so you can identify how to orient the wiring.

I have a wiring diagram I can send you that identifies everything by color. Don't get intimidated, it isn't as bad as you're thinking.

If you can't handle the wiring diagram, I can take pictures behind the dashboard clocks. I have 931 from 1980 - so it should be close,

Yes, because it's the same year, that would be super helpful, I really appreciate any photos you can lend me

I would be super grateful for this! Even identifying a few wires by color would help rule out the unknowns

Why don't you start with this:

Ok, down to a couple specifics now:

This is where I *think* the glovebox light is wired, but even with a new bulb this doesn't turn on when the ignition is on. That might be another issue, but I think the wiring of this is right. In the wiring diagrams it's green/grey for hot, and brown for ground.

Those 2 wires are coming out of the same part of the dashboard loom, so I think that's right?

But... there's this ground that's coming out in the glovebox hole area, which is the same size as the brown ground wire pictured above:

This baffles me because if it doesn't go to the glovebox light, then what else is around here to connect it to? Some light in the center console?

Re. to glovebox light:

Try with the ignition on and the low beam headlights on.

From what I remember it doesn't just work with the ignition on - so does the light in the trunk. The headlights must also be switched on.
The dashboard and center console lights work the same way.
