Is the crack all that bad anyway?
I never heard an exhaust leak from mine.. Are they significant enough to make a difference? _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

@Fasteddie313
It didn't sound very loud - but whoever knew engines would notice immediately.
Engine lose exhaust air from at least three places (1. exhaust manifold-cylinder head, 2. crack in exhaust manifold 3. exhaust manifold-Jpipe).
The air loss was not serious - and that's why you couldn't hear it unless you were very careful.
But in the long run, if you had a 5-hour trip to do, in the end, the cabin would smell of exhaust fumes. If I opened the window it smelled even worse. _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo (931) diamond silver metallic/helios blue metallic

How did it last over time? _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo (931) diamond silver metallic/helios blue metallic

This is done by Zircotec in the UK, circa £200 iirc. Its has survived as a coating but does not look as nice as it did when new. Its toned down a lot and now looks more 'rusty' in colour. Lots of 900deg heat cycles clearly pays its toll. The turbine housing also toned down but the exhaust front section and J pipe has kept its colour better. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

From what I know, it is not recommended to apply a ceramic layer over the cast iron (exhaust manifold). Cast iron reaches a higher temperature (which is good for faster evacuation) but not good for cast iron (prone to cracks). There are no problems with steel (J-pipe for example).
In Bucharest I found a single offer of 500 euros only for exhaust manifold. I think I'm giving up on the idea. _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo (931) diamond silver metallic/helios blue metallic
