I have had my '87 for about 2 months now and really love the car. But in that time I have become very scared about some of the repair costs. I am a hands on guy and can do a lot of work myself but it seems that some of this stuff like the clutch and drive belts are best left to the pros. Now I am not really a cheap ass but I have a hard time thinking about paying $2000 for a clutch job that I would usually do my self. Right now the clutch is good and the belts were just changed so it's not a worry now. So here is the question.
Can these repairs be done at home without huge problems.

All it takes is tools, time, and skills.

I have done these repairs myself in the garage, in a fraction of the time that mechanics charge "by the book".

The clutch parts cost less than $500, and you should be able to get the front belt change parts (water pump, rollers, pulleys, belts, oil seals) for less than $500 as well.

If you are not financially well off, and don't want to do your your maintenance work, the 924S/944/944S/944T cars would be a poor choice for ownership.
