Wow, that's quite the journey!
I just did a little gauge repair on the car this week, been working on non-Porsche projects lately (1965 Mustang build).
Anyway, here's a short video.

Hi everyone!
It's been a while since I've been able to work on the Porsche, been out of pocket for a few weeks, then our home flooded so been preoocupied with that. Anyway, enough excuses. I got a chance to work on the body of the 924 Turbo over the last few days and thought y'all might want to see an update. It's in primer and ready to paint now.
Here's a video: https://youtu.be/5c8UG6uNewc
Thanks for all the support,

Big setback on the Porsche. Not sure what to do next...sand down and repaint, take it somewhere to be painted, sell as-is? Pretty disheartened for sure. What do y'all think? If someone wanted to buy it now, I'd make them a good deal.

Go find a good FLAPS that caters to painters and get stuff to wet sand it. Wet sanding starting with about a 1500 then 2000 and 2500 I got mine at the local Carquest. It goes pretty quick because it doesn't take much. Start off on just one fender or the hood to see how it goes. The local classic car guys go up to 4000(Eastwood probably has it). I found anything over 2500 is a little more difficult to find. Then buff out with some 3M rubbing compound. You would be amazed at what it does. Paint has to be fully cured, min of 30 days.
I did my race car with good polyurethane boat paint($135/gal) and a roller then tipped it with a brush, typical boat finish. Waited 60 days for the paint to fully cure then wet sanded, but started at 800 or 1000 as very rough. The change was amazing. Car paint won't be nearly as thick as my boat paint. _________________ Mike

I hope you keep it up Sean. A running driving 931 is such a cool car, it'd be a shame to see a paint job end it for you! I've appreciated your series! _________________ 1980 Porsche 931

I have really enjoyed following your journey on youtube. I was sorry to see the outcome of the paint. Hopefully you can work out a way to get the car looking the way you envisioned. _________________ '81/'81/'82 |

Please don't give up! I am loving the series and thought you were doing great it until I saw you painting it.
I think you took some really big shortcuts here and it has come back to haunt you.
My advice is; Rub it down, go back to base coat, remove the glass and doors, rebase it, then build a rudimentary paint booth and try again. |

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement. I'm pretty much at the point of deciding to take it somewhere to have it painted, unless someone wanted to buy it as is. The ONLY reason I'm thinking of selling now is that we may be moving and taking 5 cars across the country is somewhat challenging logistically.
However, if we stay put then I'll be finishing the car. Having it wrapped is a great option that I need to consider seriously.

Made the decision to paint the car, but a few things needed to happen first.
1 - more oil leaks popped up, so those had to get addressed
2- There was a tie rod that needed to be changed
3- Not a biggie, but I had replaced the radio a while ago and it's junk. So I put in a new stereo and speakers.

In the next video, I'll be resealing the rear hatch and then assembling the car.
Thanks for sticking with me, and for all the support!
