I have a 1981 Porsche 924. While I have a few rattles, etc to figure out, I noticed on the parts listing that there is a vibration damper system shown. It has a bracket that goes to the engine and a small shock absorber type system that attaches to the frame or somewhere.
My question
Did all years use that system and if so where is it located on a 1981 NA 2 liter?
Thanks,
Ted

ted - I don't know a direct answer for you, however I can tell you my '79 na had it. I had stiffer mounts installed and didn't reinstall the vibration system. I don't recall exactly why not, but I know the bushings weren't easy to find or generally available, so that played a part. It's not my daily driver, so I don't mind the rough feel w/o it and the stiffer mounts.

Have you checked the link below to locate the location of the mount?

Thanks for the reply. I looked at that picture on the link. That is what I had to look at before. My problem is I cannot find it. Where exactly is it mounted?
Car is put away right now but I need to take it out again so can look more.
Thanks,
TEd

oh, I see. The diagram is somewhat limited on where exactly it's mounted. My car is in a condo parking garage, don't go down there much... but next time I do I'll see if I can get a pic of where mine would have been mounted. I think I can visually observe it. Should have some time this weekend to get this done.

The vibration damper is located somewhat between the oil filter and alternator apparently only on 2.0L NA cars. Check out this photo and description from 924.org:

"The vibration damper below (13 through 17) is only on 924 and not the 931. So there is a very good possibility that you can get by without! Specially if you can't get it for less than the roughly $250 list!!!"

My car has one, but it is missing some bushings and appears to be useless. I did install the Vibra Technics Street motor mounts a year ago and am quite happy with the results. The car is still a shaky, rattling beast, but at least it no longer feels like the engine is going to oscillate right out of the chassis!

yeah, there it is, nice job. I also went with the Vibra-Technics street mounts and am happy with results. Again, did not add the vibration damper back in.

I have never seen this damper on a 924. So I think it wasn't on the 1980+ models.
