Is it true that the 2 litre 4 cylinder van engine fitted in the Porsche 924 was originally designed by Mercedes for Audi? Anyone heard or read anything similar? |

Saying that the 924 has a van engine is equivalent to saying all American muscle cars have pick up truck engines.......there are similar connections. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Engine block was originally designed by Daimler for a turbo diesel application in the late 50s. VW bought the tooling and rights and from there on everybody buit their own engine on that block. VW for the van, Audi for the saloon, that shady American car as well and also Porsche for the 924.
Sharing the same engine block with all the others, yes but the rest of the 924 engine brothers have nowhere near the performance of the 924 engine.
That is because they are not the same engine
Based on the same block but quite a bit of difference. _________________ SUPERCHARGED Ruby-sh 924 |

I think people will often brag about putting a “truck” engine in their car.. Truck engines are good..
Whenever I talk about my 931 not having a Porsche engine I always say it’s a Porsche head on a diesel block and crank..
I am quite a modest person so I always have to say “well it’s not like it’s a 911, it’s not worth a lot, half of it is vw parts so it’s pretty cheap a lot of the time” etc to downplay.. also their is not much sense in explaining my mods because it’s just a bunch of technical jargon most wont understand.. I do say it is fast now though and leave it at that..
I don’t talk about my cars and things much because I hate to brag but I like to have nice stuff for myself.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

Is the N/A cylinder head a Porsche design or is it straight (same ports and valves) from the Audi? |

If I read the Brian Long book correctly, the euro 924 engine differs only from the Audi 100 in that the 924 has k-jet and the Audi carbs AND adjustable lifters instead of shims. Same valve size, same compression. |

I am being rather sarcastic saying that the 924 has a van engine,,, but that is what is said... even the GT40 has a van engine as far as Im informed. |
