Hey guys, has anyone here installed the rear trailing arm inner bushings from PF ?

I rebuilt the rear arms with new bearings, seals and syn grease and was just trying to install the PF part number PFR57-222 and they are NOT going to work.

The main diameter of the pressed in part is .120" larger than the stock bushing which means that once pressed into the arm is closes the hole for the steel cross pin. Second problem is the thickness of the outer flange. When you add up this thickness, the thickness of the arm itself and the two fender washers that go on the outside the total of these is .200" too wide to fit into the bracket on the torsion bar carrier ! It is impossible that this is correct since the black material these are made from just does not compress at all...

Anyone have any ideas before I throw these into the lathe and spin them down to correct dimensions ?

These flanges need .100" of thickness removed :

The box labelled as fitting 944/968 arms which some senior guys here on the Board say are all the same in dimension :

So far my personal experience witht he PF line up of replacement bushings is crap. Really crap.

I haven't experienced these yet....

But depending on how much give (softness) they have I might throw them into a freezer before machining. After I mount on a mandrel (shaft machined to the correct ID) of course. Making them cold should make machining straightforward

That's OK it's done. I sharpened a cutter and spun them to the correct dims yesterday. Ended up removing .200" in width qnd still had to beat them in with a mallet. F'ing worst 'direct fit' product I have ever bought. If I wasn't a machinist I would be screwed.

I have a sloppy old metal lathe from the late 1800's with a 4jaw, no compound, and a feed screw driven by a cloth-electricaltape-belt I made, lol..

It isn't good for much but if I found some stock material I think bushings like these would be doable.. Some day I might see if I can find some barstock of decent poly material economically and play with making things like this..
