|
|
Hi all,
I have noticed through this board reading that over the times to get a main bearing crankshaft set has been difficult (STD) or almost impossible.
Is this issue sorted?
Are they available now?
If anyone knows any source, please inform.
Thanks in advance for any help. |

I forgot to say that the car in this case is a 924 Turbo from 81.
I have read so,ethereal that there are two bearing versions for this car.
Internal diameter 60 mm and 64mm.
Earlier cars have 60 mm crank diameter and latter cars have 64mm.
My car’s crankcase has 64 mm crank diameter...
Can anyone confirm this information?
I believe the bearings for the 64 mm are easier to find? |

Just measured a couple cranks, turbo and NA. Both 64mm mains. I believe only the 76/77 early cars had the 60 mm crank. Either way, first turbos were later cranks (64 mm). BTW turbo and NA cranks are identical except for the location of the input shaft bearing. Totally swapable. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car

Thanks for your explanation !
I have seen many adds at the ebay (glyco sets for example), but they are indicated for engines 85 - up... 2.5 engines and further...
Sorry my ignorance but, do these 2.5 engines have a different crank?
or.. is it the same block???!! |

Yes, the 2.5 924S motor is a Porsche motor from the 944, a completely different motor. I doubt there are any interchangeable parts. EBS Racing had the last known supply of 924 main bearings. _________________ Mike

I need some, but engine guy can machine the crank and use the oversize, which are easier to get.
I called EBS about 10 days ago and they had a new run being checked for quality, then sending the order to make them. They said about month after the order they would have them.
I need check in on the progress. _________________ 1981 Weissach Edition #179 |

They are available in Europe. One of the guys on the 924 owners group in Facebook posted a link to a place that had them. |

I could find only one link but it doesn't seem helpful. If you can find it please share. _________________ 1981 Weissach Edition #179 |

I would wait the 8-10 weeks and get them from EBS. Mittlemotor prices are just zooming around the realm of insane.

Thanks for that but I couldn’t find any of those names on the owners club web page.
Do you have any contact to these people?
Thanks in advance for any help. |

Ok, I am going to let out a tease...Been holding this one close to my chest for a while now
I have a solution in the works. A solution that should give us bearings for a long time with many size options
Sorry for being so vague but I want to make sure it goes as planned and is tested...I guess now I should accelerate this project too
