Hello there, gentlemen. I have an interesting case I'd like to share with you and possibly get some opinions/ideas.

There is this 924 for sale here that's pretty confusing to look at. You will instantly get what I'm talking about when you have a look at the pictures.

It's being advertised as late `93 S model with all the papework intact. Now it simply can't be a `93 model to begin with and things just go downhill from there. Here's what I noticed by looking at it and I'd love to hear your comments on all that:

1. 968 fenders and lights (kit? chop shop?)
2. late 944 dash with a weird center console
3. 924 seats that have been redone to match new dash trim
4. door trim that has been redone to match the new dash
5. late 944 rear lights
6. weird front and rear bumpers (chop shop?)
7. tailgate redone to match 944 lights (?)
8. no door handles
9. swapped steering wheel
10. swapped exhaust
11. it's been LPG converted
12. swapped wheels (boxster?)
13. dashboard is in kms, not miles, so it's not some wacky pimp my ride US import

What do you lads make out of this? Have you ever seen anything like that before? It's obvious someone poured money in this for some reason. Is it a track car (although that seems ridiculous, considering the LPG)? And most importantly - is it worth even considering this?

Looks like a 924S or 944 tub since the rear side window was different on the 968.

944 had a fuse box under the hood. I dont see one in the pics so I think its a 924S.

Hood and nose/header panel look like the 924/944 style.

Looks like 924S/944 brakes.

I doubt its a dedicated or serious track car since the alignment (camber) looks relatively mild.

Is it worth it? Someone spent a lot of money on this thing. Not my taste however I have spent lots on my car and it might not be to everyones taste either.

I don't have it yet. Hopefully he will be kind enough to send it, considering he dropped the price already.

So, if we consider someone spent time and money to make this look like a 968 (and did not accomplish that very well but has laid some sort of a foundation nevertheless), do you believe if these outrageous front and rear bumpers are swapped for custom ones that look like 968, wheels are replaced with 968 stars or even telephone dials (these actually come with the car as a winter tire set), seats and dash are stripped out of that cheap faux leather shit and restored, then this car might actually look like a decent 968 tribute and have any kind of resell value?

I don't think you're likely to come out ahead on that. A 968 would be cheaper and better.

The car looks okey from the pictures, the interior a bit tatty maybe.

Value: an original car is always worth more. Buy it if you like it and get a good price, not sure what these cars go for where you live.

He already dropped it to 3750 Euro from initial 4000 and I'm leaning towards paying 3000-3250 tops. 968's start at 10k on Autoscout and 924's are slightly cheaper so if I am not horribly mistaken, this might actually work out.

Why would somebody pay good money for a 968 tribute if a real 968 is available for only a couple of grands more?
I'ld put my money in the real thing in that case.

I'd do that myself any day but look at the figures I mentioned an hour ago.

In Europe please try to find 968 for 6-8k euros lol..

It is difficult in US also. Good running 968's start from 12-14k and more.

As of Poland, where prices are still lower than in Western Europe.
You need EUR 2.5-3k for an N/A 924 in a drivable shape, but far from perfect.
You need EUR 7k for a 931 in an average to good condition but around 12k for a very good condition.
944 in a good condition should be around EUR 7-8k, while in a so so condition but drivable might be as low as around 3.5-4k.
There is an early 951 with Fuchs wheels in average condition for sale for around EUR 12k.
968 starts around EUR 14k.
