I am curious if anyone has assembled a standard 931 K26 with a billet compressor wheel? I may need a turbo rebuild and was looking at this as a slight improvement over an other wise stock rebuild.

Example on ebay of the billet wheel.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Billet-Turbo-Compressor-Wheel-K26-Audi-Porache-5326-123-2016HF-44-5-65-94-7-7/252897531666?hash=item3ae1de1712%3Ag%3AlNkAAOSw-b9atLsw&_sacat=0&_nkw=k26+audi+billet+wheel&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313

Thanks,

Andrew

Do a good research before ordering, that compressor wheel may not fit your particular K26 turbo.

I found one that works(I had to modify the wheel a bit)

There is a noticeable improvement in off the pedal/back on the pedal response.
Also the boost comes a tiny bit sooner in the RPM range.

Thanks for the feedback;

I see what you mean, I had stumbled onto the Turbo Reference thread, which has most of the compressor sizes (inducer/exducer) listed. What I linked above must be for a 944 K26.

http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=15595

I have an S2 but I am seeing some wheels that look to fit the S1 compressor size.

I will tear down what I have before ordering anything. Are you aware of any spec for clearance compressor wheel to cover?

Thanks again,

Andrew

there are NO wheels that will fit the S1, you can use an S2 compressor and there is a wheel that can be machined to work in the S2 compressor.

S1 wheel on the left, S2 compatible billet compressor wheel on the right.
As you can see, it is pretty tall and if your shaft has been trimmed to fit the stock wheel, which it was...you need a new shaft and turbine wheel assembly...case in which you don't need to modify the wheel.
That's a good idea anyway since most turbine wheels are toast by now.

Just adding... thats the Euro S1 on the left. US S1 is similar to the S2 accept larger inducer (where air comes into turbo). I'll dig up a pic

US S1 Wheel...ignore the white powder used for scanning. ...Moparboy72 we are not far from each other nor are you far from possibly the center of US 924 knowledge, Ideola's Garage in Woodstock

If I remember correctly there ia a 2664 wheel in the KTS catalogue, hence should be possible to order. Im not sure about the minimum order quantity though.

Thanks for all the replies;

I pulled my turbo this weekend and tore it down.

As Ciprian/morghen pointed me to...my turbine wheel is shot! I also measured both wheels and found what may be the correct wheels on eBay from off-shore sources.

Here are my measurements which are for a 142k mi 1982 931 (US-S2) which looks to have been rebuilt at some point meaning bearings are okay-ish but that is about it:

Compressor Ind. 39.64, 39.61, 39.61
Compressor Exd. 66.03, 65.95, 66.00

Turbine Ind. 54.32, 54.32, 54.30
Turbine Exd. 64.40, 64.50, 64.54

The bad news is that my turbine housing has a good crack forming in it, before I order any other parts I need to source another.

Mike,

I know Dan and I have been to his place in Woodstock. It sounds like I may need another trip at some point soon. This 924 Turbo is the gift that keeps on giving...

Cedric,

I found your post from 2016; Looking on the KTS site it seems as you note they are looking for a re-seller (sell many wheels) not a single customer (just one wheel). I see the listing for the same application wheel I see on ebay with KTS, the sizes look the same and both applications call out a "Truck".

Thanks all,

Andrew

I will post some carnage pictures shortly ;-(

Find any turbine housing without a crack.......most cracked not long after being installed and ran fine for 10+ yrs until it was torn down. Just need to find one with limited cracks to reuse

You agree that what is in the photo above is excessive or are you saying this is still a usable part?

Thanks,

Andrew

What are the tag numbers on the turbo you pulled off your car?
2664 or 2660?

Just because your car is a US S2 doesn't mean that's the turbo you have..
Don't get too caught up in the Us S1 S2 and euro S1 S2 turbos because it gets confusing depending on where you are from, go by the numbers on the turbo tag.. Blue or red tag..

What do you think is wrong with your turbine wheel? Is their a crack in the blade or just the carbon on it or what?

I'm not 100% sure about your compressor wheel by the photo.. Does it have damage on the inducer like it ate something? Was it scuffing the housing on the blade edges? Look shiny..

I think your housing crack is a bit on the larger side but if it isn't touching the wheel, or threatening to, then it's probably fine..
I have a spare but it has a crack, just like the one I'm running has a crack..

If you have a 2660 turbo I don't think I saw comp wheels for it, but I have seen billet comp wheels on ebay for the 2664..

I have a spare 2664 comp cover you could use to run a 2664 billet wheel..
I just gave CarreraRSR a 2660 wheel for research and maybe he is done with it by now?
I may have a runable turbine wheel/shaft too, but these pieces are like gold, lol.. You basically have to cannibalize other kkk turbos to get them..

How is the turbine piston, comp piston, ring grooves, cylinders on both sides? Are you buying a rebuild kit?
How is the turbine shaft where the bearings ride? No groove? Bearing housing fine where the bearings go?

Lets find out what exactly you really need and see if we can't find you parts..

All our turbo internals are available new from KKK. Turbine wheel and shaft, compressor wheels, rebuild kits etc. It’s the new housings which are harder to find, but not impossible. There are some nos turbos out there, but expect to pay north of €1200

The compressor wheel in the pics is a 2660 going by the measurements and blades. Totally useable on a stock motor. Going to 2664 or 2670 on a stock motor running stock boost without IC isn’t going give a lot more than a 2660. It’s when you start asking for more performance you will find it’s ceiling.

My current rebuilt turbos turbine housing is cracked.
