Finally got Merritt back out in her #77 yesterday on a very hot day, shakedown for both driver and car... she hadn't been out in the dry/racing conditions since 2016, and the car also hadn't really been run through its paces in the worst conditions since then (having been stuffed into a wall by yours truly)
On the plus side, driver did fine despite brutal heat (for Michigan - 95 deg), and the car drove just fine.
On the down side, the headgasket popped during the second session, and now need to be redone. Not entirely sure why it popped, though we have a few theories... but we'll see when we pull the head in a couple of weeks.
Meantime, we have another race to worry about, as I'll be out at Gingerman the following weekend (July 7-8th) for the SCCA Majors in my P2... busy busy!!
Still hoping to get the #77 back out on track again this year, first more testing at Waterford then a full race weekend at Mid-Ohio. The latter will be dependent on both weather and my work schedule, though... maybe early August, or maybe not till October... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Nice to see the car back out again! Very surprising with the head gasket, overheat? Would be fun with some in car clips from the racing further on. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Yeah, quite a surprise. Just refreshed the engine, too - first time run in real heat. But we've never had such issues before. Ah well... _________________ Vaughan Scott
