Accoring to the receipt I got from Ebay in 2009, I paid $129.95 for the GTR Factory Workshop and Parts Manual. The seller was M. Hallock and got if from Tom O´Dell, Part Manger at PMNA when the operation was transferred from Holbert Racing to Andial.

The GTS catalouge cost me five times as much, but is original.

As long as I can cover the actual cost I am willing to share info, digital or physical. No interest in making money on this.

Add me to the list.

My recommendation is PDF scanned @600DPI grayscale. If the is an option to do text only pages in black and white rather than grayscale, it will reduce size, and respond better to Acrobat's OCR, which will allow indexing and searching (e.g. as our PET PDFs function). Ideally, not secured to allow copying of text.

Not sure what you mean fully by this Dan, I’m only interested in a exact digital replica of the document in pdf. Don’t care on file size or search ability.

Wetransfer will work free up to 2GB document size to multiple email addresses in one upload or send the url link via email. Simple

So if GTR document can be dealt with by Keno, assume $50CAD?

And if Gegge can sort the GTS document for €? Assume the same list of candidates for GTR document? Then we will all be happy bunnies

Only other ask, I’m looking for the digital download of Model 81 924 turbo/Carrera GT workshop manual if anyone knows a link? I have 80 and 82 already. TIA

What I mean is that there is no point in scanning in color since the document was not produced in color. Hopefully, a reputable shop would know this. 600DPI will produce excellent reproduction of the original screen-printed grayscale images with enough resolution and grayscale depth to prevent them from become indecipherable blobs that a lower resolution / bit depth scan would turn them into.

Acrobat has a feature that allows you to run an OCR scan (optical character recognition) that will convert the rasterized (scanned) images into selectable text. So if you wanted to search on a specific search term, you could find all the pages with that word or part number. The PET PDFs were all produced in this manner, so you can actually search for part numbers using PDF's built in search capability.

In my opinion, this would be far superior to simply producing JPG files. I wouldn't choose JPG anyway, because it uses a lossy compression algorithm that introduces artifacts into the images, even at the highest quality. If we don't do PDFs, the better image-only format would be TIF, as these will be high quality images suitable for high-end printing later. Problem with TIF is that there is no compression at all, and the file sizes would be YUGE. PDF is the best option if it can be done.

One of the problems with the PET PDF, though, is that Porsche turned on all of the security features, which means you can't even select and copy the OCR'd text. This is a major pain in the ass when you're searching through PET for a part number, and then wanting to transfer that into a search engine to find the part online. If that one security feature were turned off, you could copy the part number and then paste it into a search engine or supplier's website. So I would recommend NOT using PDF's security features in order to maximize the usefulness of having the information in digital format.

Peter is correct, sorry I did not get to this, please send the payments in Cdn. funds. Since all expenses will be paid here in Canada this is the currency of the day.

Funds cannot be sent through PP unless the person is in the same country so this is moot. I will accept the -$2.00 fee from each person's payment.

Now that I have the details of what format to get it scanned to ( thank you Dan) I can start calling around to find a suitable shop. In the meantime please start sending the funds in Canuck Bucks.

I will let you guys know once I get a shop lined up and the book out for copy.

6 people paid up. I will see if the copy place is open today and if so take it down. I spoke to them already and explained what we want and he thinks it is not a problem. I will take a copy of PET for him to see and explain what we want.

Thanks WEASEL149 and everyone else that has paid.

Um, so, some people are sending me money but not telling me your handle from the Board here. I will need that info so I know who has paid and who hasn't. Also, I will need an email address to go with said name so I can email you the file once it is done. For the record my email address is the same as the PP address :

leaky15@hotmail.com

Please note, when you are sending the funds via PP you will need to specify the currency so please make sure it is either Canadian or USD. Someone sent it in Euro (I will refund it today, please resend it in either of the above type currencies) I do not want to have to convert it myself and loose on the exchange. I am already eating the PP 4% fee, thank guys.

So, that all aside, I spent my afternoon dismembering a first edition GTR manual ! She came apart perfectly, not a tear in a single page, so happy about that. It should be next to perfect once re-bound. As for the copying, as I mentioned before I think I have that almost 100% sorted, the guy doing it is very competent and knows exactly what the end result should be. What we will end up with is something just like PET but not locked.

Found some cool A** stuff in the manual when I was tearing out the pages.

Example :

Have you ever thought to yourself, `Gee, I want to go race my GTR at Monza this weekend but have just NO idea what tires I should use or gear sets I should bring."

Problem solved ! (Unfortunately it's mostly in Kraut but I think we can mumble our way through it) :

There is some seriously fascinating reading in this thing.
