Hey guys. Ive got an 85 924 turbo I was thinking about making into a Gt clone/replica. Anyone have an idea of a reasonable price for one? I don't want to put more into it than I can get out of it if it comes in over budget. Thanks

You will surely put more into it than its worth. At least if you want to do an at least half assed job.
The 931 are becoming more and more rare, especially in unmolested original form.
A hacked up 931 will not be worth more than an in-hacked one...and you pay for the hacking.

There is absolutely no reason to sink 10k into your 931 to get it about right so that you can get 500 dollars for it when it looks like an abomination because you half-half-half assed it.

Unless you use original parts, do EXACTLY what the factory did, you WILL end up with a bad looking car...that's neither a future collectible or a good looking car.

So, if you do it...you're killing a 924 turbo.

Enjoy your 931 as its a very very cool car.
If you think it could use a fresher look, put your money in for some wheels and lower it just a bit....it will look very very good on some wheels.

Have a look at mine for example, i think it looks rather good.

The 924 turbo was produced between 79 and 82. If this is not a typo, I would like to see your car VIN.

1- I agree with morghen, you will put more, way more than what it will worth.
2- It will go over budget and even better, it will go over your car current value.

Well said

The 924 Carrera GT/GTS/GTR are beautiful cars. Many people, including myself, have build replica/clone, so I totally understand your desire to build one. But if you are thinking about its future resale value, you are going at it the wrong way. If you worry about resale value, than keep it original.
I love my car and I put into it way more than I would ever get back. This is not an investment but something I did as a hobby for me to enjoy.

If you are comfortable whit that, then roll up your sleeve and have fun. There are many people here that would be happy to help you along the way, including myself.

Thanks for the info guys! I’m sorry to mislead you about the turbo. It is an 85 and it’s been turbo charged and swapped over to efi already. I kinda figured the clones weren’t worth much but I it never hurts to hear it from the pros.

If your car is really an 85, that mean it's an Euro spec.
The 924 2.0 liter engine stopped in 82 for North America and 87-88 for the 924S 2.5 liter engine.
I would be interest to know which one you have.

931 production actually ended in 1983 with 300 units for Italy only. . .

Almost bought one to import. By far the rarest 931 available, less of them than the 937.

Making a GT clone is a massive commitment. I practised cutting the rear arches on my old NA parts car and even that scared the shit out of me! So much so I haven't dared take the angle grinder to the rear arches of the turbo yet. The front end should not prove too much hassle, just get the correct looking bonnet scoop. It's your car, go for it. Flush fitting screen is a must though. It's a detail that as morghen suggested would feel half arsed. If you do it, which I hope you do, and someone refers to it as a 944 drive over their toes.
