Here is another thread on the topic http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=25613

Peter has the site hosted for free essentially.

I am pretty decent with this stuff, but Peter would have to accept the help and be willing to move the hosting. We would also have to chip in to keep it running.

Morghen Thank you for the laugh of my morning. The computer took up the ENTIRE second floor of the electrical engineering building and was about as powerful as an 80286 from about 1985.

Tapatalk is pretty straightforward. The plugin and board software have to be kept fairly up-to-date in order to keep working properly with the app. Instructions and download links can be found here: https://www.tapatalk.com/download_phpbb.php

Apparently there's an imgur extension, which would mitigate the need for additional hosting -- an account would have to be made for 924board in order to get API credentials, but other than that it's a straightforward setup it looks like. Basically it would replace the IMG tag and automatically upload to imgur. More information here: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extension/imgur/

Imgur is good. Until it it isn't.

Here's one: This extension will add an upload system for images to your forum.
This will allow you to host your own images from your server rather than use a 3rd party.

If there is any way possible, I think it would be valuable to store and control our own images.

I just bought 924board.com and a year of hosting. I will install phpbb so we can play around with it. Just to be clear, I am not trying to hijack the board!

We can try different skins and plugins to see what works best.

I totally agree with Morghen.

There are folks that have been visiting this board for an awful long time and although they don't post every day they probably visit often and are pretty satisfied with it's "KISS" method of operation.

It's nice to see someone who is passionate and hopefully understands the scope of the International audience that belongs and contributes to this forum...I wish you well.

Also a big shout out to Peter for all he's done for this group for so many years...Thank You!

if you guys want to try changing the skin, please input the current data base into a few forum clones and post the links here so we can have a look, dont mod the official one until we have a poll on which one looks best, same with the image upload plugins.
Something similar for the image upload plugins.

Allright, new 924board.com setup. You can add attachments and put them in line in the post. Register for an account and see if that works. Let me know if you have any issues. Max picture size is 4mb.

I created an account and post a picture but I got a message saying that my message will be posted after being review by moderator for approval.???

I hope you not planing on keeping this on.
Also, as mentioned by others, I hope we keep this skin.

Having the option of uploading pictures would be great, but not at the sacrifice of everything else.

Cheers

I changed the board style to "basic", you may have to clear your browser cache to get the change. You can also go into your user profile and change the style to whatever you like. I would have to upload the style for it to be available.

There is a cool gallery here https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/style/prosilver_special_edition/demo/3.2 where you can see different ones. If there is one you like let me know I will add it.

I will work on making it match this one. Any category requests etc..?

Anyone have a logo?

I am voting for keeping it simple as well. Same format(ish) but with pic uploading, exactly as others here have chimed in for. If it costs $10 a year for user fees to pay for server space then sign me up.

Over the last 15 years I have been a member here for free and been carried by the hard work Peter and the moderators do and have always had a twinge of guilt about it. I thank all of them very much.

What I don't want it to degrade into is the UK forum format whereby it becomes a local thing with dues paid by a world-wide membership to benefit a few locals that have meetings sponsored by those dues. Ridiculous.

For me the treat about this unique board is that it is run as a concern with everyone helping each other out. No ads, no sponsors, no fancy list of 'special' people feeling aggrandized by their self given titles.

My two cents.
