I'm not sure what did or did not come with these cars originally. I have what appear to be 4" round Sony speakers with a suspiciously non-stock-looking grill/enclosure on the door.

I want to replace them with NVX NSP4...cheap, but great bang-for-the-buck, supposedly. Mounting depth on these is 1-7/8" so I'm worried that won't clear the window, or otherwise not fit in the space there.

I think spacers might be an option, but I either need to reuse these Sony grill things or find something else...the NVX speakers don't come with grills.

Anyone know what the mounting depth limits are without spacers?

Well this is interesting....Crutchfield actually had an installation guide for this car, and they said there are 4x6 in back, a 4x6 in the center and nothing in the doors, stock (they recommend cutting the doors and put something there, which is what I see a lot of when I Google for images, and indeed, what a PO did with mine). What an awful design for audio purposes lol...

I'm going to put a boost gauge and (at some point) a wideband in the center speaker spot so I think I'm just going to go for it with the 4" NVX and hope for the best...
