hm, interesting...i never seen the type of system you mentioned above....i have only seen the one on my car and the one you posted...i always thought the one you posted is the aftermarket one but yea...may be early or late...even though my 931 is an S1 and has the "late" knob

It has nothing to do with S1 or S2. Only early 1979 931's and 924's had early A/C system, late 1979 and on already had later type.

My '78 with factory air had that knob. The switch is a multi-function vacuum/electrical engineering marvel. The problem with mine was the "freeze sensing" thermocouple that goes to the evaporator was broken off. I'm pretty sure I tossed it, but I will double check.


I updated mine to the later switch, and added an electrically controlled vacuum valve from a toyota. I also got a toyota a/c switch to turn the compressor on. It all works and unless you're an expert in old 924 a/c permutations, it could probably pass for stock.

If you were updating the switch, you would also need an a/c amplifier box and the freeze switch for the evaporator.
