So I am trying to track down why Olive all of a sudden won't idle and in fact runs like crap. I installed a re-built WUR that came with her and have now moved on the make sure the fuel flow is correct. I pulled the injectors and put them into glass bottles to watch for flow volume and spray pattern. Fuel relay is removed and jumpered. The question I have is ; when I put the neg lead back on the battery to give the fuel pump power all of the injectors light up and spray. I have tried turning the mixture screw full anti-clockwise and still they spray. If I am not mistaken this shouldn't happen, correct ? They should only spray when the metering plate is depressed, no ? For what it's worth I removed the head from the metering box to make sure the pin is not stuck and it isn't, she is clean as a whistle and moves freely in and out.

Number 3 and 4 injectors also keep spraying even under residual pressure once the pump is fully off so I guess they are toast..

Ideas anyone ? Time for a rebuild or do you think it is just 4 bad injectors ?

I thought that too but the amount of fuel pissing out is crazy. Since I have the mixture adjusting screw all the way anti-clockwise I find it hard to believe the distributor would push that much fuel on full lean. Also, it would be strange to have all 4 injectors go bad at the same time. You would expect the odds to have at least one good one....

I will order new injectors today anyways and see what happens.

Are the injectors the right ones? You replaced the fuel pump with a new one that's pushing the right amount...so if injectors are the wrong ones or have been "rebuilt" then it may be that you get spray.

Who knows, maybe somebody "rebuilt" the head as well...

I don't know. I have found a few things that are not quite correct in the fuel system. The pump is new, as is the accumulator. The injectors I had professionally cleaned and tested which is why I find it hard to believe they are all bad. The metering head I am unsure of but I did drive the car for 1,200 miles until the brake line burst and she ran fine then. The metering head looks clean and the piston is sqeeky clean and free floating. Only issue I found was a too small o-ring between it and the airbox so that was not sealed properly. I added a properly sized o-ring now so she is sealed.

I will order a new set of injectors and see what happens then. If they still spray then the head will be the fault and will need rebuilding. Makes me cringe to think of the $425 they charge for that job now....

Maybe they busted the injectors while professionally cleaning them ...they should hold 2.8 bar or around that without so much of a queef.

That's the strange part. Even with the plunger doing it's job inside the metering head the fuel is still pissing out the injectors. Would this be because the o-rings inside it are missing or damaged ? Maybe something else is buggered ?

If it's the head then it's those stretched o-rings..it's early morning here but I think that's right.
