I read that the first bunch of usa/Japan made units
924 turbo came with 4bolt rims and the normal 924 brake set up
The first 600
They were all painted silver

So I bought myself one in calgary alberta Canada
With us car 77000miles on it needs some love but the body is straight and rust free paint looks newer
Sitting for 1.5 years
I want to buy some items and get started on the car

1. All belts all hoses all fluids
2. Thermostat and ring
3. Fuel filter
4. Oil and air filter- what oil do you guys like
5.new gas and injector cleaner do you run high grades of gas or notice much difference?
6. Plugs and wires what brand or plugs and wire do you use?

The car had a problem of over heating after 15 mins
So I read to check the rad. Coolant and the fan sensor

Could you think of other basic items to replace asap

I was thinking front control arms and sway bar bushings

Here is the part I will take heat on someone had the red middle tail light with turbo on it
And got damaged so I would like to buy another as the lower bumper has holes
The car looks repainted and is debadged and no Porsche name above the bumper
Any ideas Good places to buy Porsche 931 parts in Canada would be great also

Thanks again for letting me be here
Mike
I have been pics right now and will get her next week

Timing belt and tensioner ASAP.. Do not even crank it over with an old belt..

I have been using napa 15-50 full synthetic with a bottle of zddp zink and phosphorous additive but I think I will buy rotella deisel full synthetic in a 40 weight next time because it already has the additives I need.. I think..

Full synthetic is good for these old oil cooled turbos so oil doesnt burn in them creating deposits that clog em up..

I would run nothing but premium fuel in a turbo, these are prone to detonation with no intercooler and need high octain..

Techron fuel system cleaner is the juice for these cars, strong mixture recommended..

NGK copper core plugs but I don't recall the # or heat range off of the top of my head..

overheating could be not purged correctly, I wired my fan in a standalone circuit, could be the usual culprits like stuck thermostat/bad pump, or a leaking head gasket..

It seems all the 931 parts in the world are in western canada so you are in good shape there..

Good luck with your car and don't hesitate to ask a billion questions..

Thanks again so much
The car drove to the storage location 2 years ago so something has changed since it sat. So I think it's a relay pump or thermostat
I will do all the belts tensioner
Fluids and battery plugs and fuel additive
I'm glad to here there are alot in western Canada
But I'm sure not many 4 blot oem 1980 931
I paid 2500 for the car as it is very clean and I know it worked before

Can anyone tell me a good place to buy the basic parts like filter belts etc. Are local auto value and things like that Ok?
I can use c1vw for German oils and coolant but the rest I need to order
Also if someone can help me find a turbo red middle brake light in good shape that would be great
I will be asking questions as they arise
Thanks again
Mike

No worries not sure where you would find a 1980 924t that runs and is complete and rust free for 500 but
I sold my other car today to pay for the water damage
Now I can focus back on this unit

So you're the chap who bought this one. I saw it pop up on kijiji, first at a ludicrous price (and misidentified as a 944) and then at the $2500 you paid for it, and must admit I drooled just a little.

As for the overheating, I'd swap the temp switch on the rad and bleed the system. See where that gets you.

Anyway, I may have some 931-specific parts, including the "Turbo" lighted panel for the rear of the car. I know I have a 931S2 fuel dizzy an air filter and probably a fuel filter too. My wife's 931 died a horrible death which turned me off turbos. Didn't stop me from acquiring 924s though...

Aside: Leigh, I've been watching your 'Olive' project with great interest.

PM replied to.

I may have a temp switch for the rad but in the meantime, fab yourself up a jumper, pull the two wires off the temp switch and bridge them. Fans should run, and you can just let them spin merrily away while the car is running.

For the record, I don't hate the 931 at all, I just don't have the wherewithal (time/money) to deal with one. That said, I'm pretty sure I'd say yes to the right one if the opportunity came along. I am a bit of a sucker for these cars...
