1977.5 924
Car was taken off the road in 1984 and sat in the garage till now. I'm trying to bring it back to life. I'm in central New Jersey and I'm looking for advice or someone that can work on the vehicle or give me advice on a local shop. At this point I have over $1,000 in Parts into the mechanical fuel injection the tank has been drained and cleaned and coated before I just keep changing parts I'd like to have somebody with more knowledge look at it. Fuel distributer was sent out to California to be rebuilt

Thanks

Car will start but sputters like it is starving for gas. I believe it is the mechanical fuel injection. Has a new fuel pump, new regulator, rebuilt fuel distributor, injectors checked for leak down, new rubber on the injectors

Grounds and wiring I would say. That was the last thing I checked and she ran right after. Never underestimate the grounds.
Also.. check your MAF and Fuel dizzy.
Might also be the 5th injector that helps give your car more fuel but unlikely.

If you have that much into the injection then buy or make a cis pressure tester and test your fuel pressures as outlined in the hanes manual or the thread How to connect & operate the Hoffman CIS Test Kit http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=35734

Another great thing to do is the fuel injector test..

Pull the injectors, put them back on the lines, Put them in 4 identical pop bottles, jump 30-87 on fuel pump relay to run the pump, Techron in the gas tank, push the metering plate on the fuel distributor to make the injectors spray into your pop bottles..

Go ahead and fill up the pop bottles a couple times to get that Techron through the system, running it is good for it, give it a chance to clean its self up..

Then after you fill them a few times empty your bottles and fill them about half way with the injectors, compare there levels, the bottles should have equal amounts of gas in them and you should observe a nice cone pattern spray from the injectors.. And it makes very cool sounds.. EEEEEEeeekkkk...

The injectors should stop when your not pushing on the metering plate, should not dribble, should all spray equally within 10% iirc and spray nice cone mist patterns..

If all the injectors don't stop spraying at the same time the ones that continue to spray or dribble while the others are off need to be replaced as they are leaking, give them a chance by running with the techron first..

A good base setting for the mixture screw is to go rich just until the injectors spray by themselves and then back until they stop while you have the fuel pump running with the metering plate at rest...

If you have access to a CIS fuel pressure testing kit by all means use it, as before run the system with techron for a while first to give it a chance to clean itself up..

If your car has lambda or an O2 sensor system you can then tune the mixture screw by monitoring the lambda frequency valve duty cycle with a dwell meter after you get it running and up to temp...
