Since I bought my car, I haven't been able to make my stereo (Blaupunkt Berlin 8000) do anything other than light up. The cassette player is dead, the radio won't lock onto any stations, and it won't even make any static. I cleaned the connectors on the back, replaced the antenna, and still nothing. I'd like to repair it eventually but it won't be in my budget until I fix some of the other problems like my torn seats and burned out passenger window regulator. In the meantime, I'd like to remove and replace it so I have a functional stereo.
Does anyone know of a company that makes aftermarket stereos that won't stand out like a huge wart on the dash? I want something that looks at least semi-original at a quick glance. I don't want a bunch of super bright LEDs, crazy colors, big flashy displays, shiny screens, or crazy shaped buttons. I'm looking for something matte black with blocky buttons, a few dim LEDs, maybe a couple small knobs, and minimal bells and whistles. Is there anyone making something like this? Is my only option to find a used factory stereo?
Here's a good example of what I DO NOT want:
I found a company that makes modern stereos that look like they would go nicely in a 50's or 60s car, but nothing that appears to be based off 80s aesthetics. Any help would be appreciated. _________________ 1980 924 NA, US model

That looks really nice, but if I'm going to spend $1200, I have other things I'd probably prioritize on before a sound system. There's another 924 for sale down the road and I would probably still have enough money left over after buying it to fix the original blaupunkt in this one.
At any rate, I don't have room for another car and I really don't want a fancy radio. Not that I have $1200 that I should be spending on either of them (a big thank you to University for taking all my money). All I want is an FM tuner and an audio in port in an unobtrusive shell. It seems like I should easily be able to find something that fits that bill for around $200 or less. It won't be permanent as I plan on fixing the "original" Blau eventually anyway. _________________ 1980 924 NA, US model
