Been fighting the hesitation/bucking above 2800 rpm. Fix it, sort of!

I replace my o2 sensor today and then went for a drive. It ran like absolute crap above 2000 rpm for about 30 minutes. And I mean, huge bangs, pops, stumbles and almost hit the windshield with my forehead. Then, it started to clear. WTH? Then, duh... it hit me. The plugs cleaned up after not defaulting to rich. Now, I have just a very slight surge at 68-70mph if 5th.
I think I need to adjust the fuel pressure just a touch now that it is running better and maybe bump the timing a degrees.

Well, after driving this car for a year, and never getting over 20.2 miles per gallon I am now finally getting 24.8. would this be considered normal for a car that doesn't rev above 4000 RPM and spends most of its time doing freeway speeds?

Its probably running too rich. It should do around 30.

For what it's worth, I topped out at 32 mpg when I drove from NY to Iowa. Pretty much that entire drive was at freeway speeds.

Normally if I try to adjust my fuel more than one degree of turn, I get huge issues. But now that everything is being refined, I was able to lean out the setting about three degrees so far without banging popping or other negative issues. Today I will get to test it on a 200-mile drive with five mountain passes. I will know whether or not I have to enrich the fuel mix or not.
