Was in the process of swapping a early 944 door onto my early 924, and the door catch is different, wondering if anyone has done this swap and had to convert the latches and how they did it for the best result, cant find anything in the search,

Not sure this is possible. The early 924 has a single post catch on the door jamb. As you've probably determined by now, the catch bracket on the 1979-onward 2.0L cars that was carried forward on the 944 is quite different. There are captive nuts to which the brackets fasten, so I don't know of a way to mix and match or convert from one to the other.

You should be able to transfer the door handles and latch mechanism from the early door onto the 944 door.
