Here is the god-like... incredible set up of Patrick's Australian beast. His car is what I often refer to as being about as good as they get.
Notice the turbo is angled differently than I chose to go, so of course that changes the routing for charge air & exhaust.
My "dream car" has charge air cooler extraction out the hood like he's done (with dam).

Got the other side "roughed in". Had to make another hole. Turbo compressor outlet to cooler angle is off (since I never intended on routing it this way).

Un-pleased by the usual Headlight solution, something like this is better in my opinion.
It might be cool to fuse the hood & the nose panel together. also.
Headlights:
Like the early 924 widebody, and unlike every later model, I think I'll cut the nose panel for better road illumination.

I'm a bit jealous of you stainless IC piping and your ease of access to nice forged pistons.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

Kinda jumping around here...
lotsa brainstorming about interior changes...
But back in the garage after a couple daze off. Looked for a new job and found one.
I have a beater rear valance with studs ripped out, filled the holes with epoxy. One day in a couple of months this unit will probably be installed along with some form of diffuser.
The frame's front crossmember sure doesn't look like it's top half is playing nice with the turbo bumper's top air inlet.
Added another cromoly crossmember. Been dragging my butt, sorry.

The aerodynamic adjustments and design that I will attempt to accomplish is kind of standard for many cars:
-Semi-flat bottom tray(s)
-Lowered ride height
-Extraction vents in fenders & hood
-Front Canards
-Front Splitter
-Rear hatch spoiler & wing with uprights
-Rear oem S2/turbo valance with aluminum diffuser
And after I develop these things then I can paint the car.
But you'll notice my fender vents are on the side, because my car is a street car and I don't want dirty water, slush and debris hitting my windshield. I am however thinking of making a plastic inner splash guard that would still allow air to pass through, but aerodynamics is tough to just guess at. |

The rad holder has become the most important element.
Not really because of the rad hoses in relation to the engine - since those can easily be modified... but because the rad holding bracket also holds the a/c condenser (which has extreme low tolerance to position changing due to the refrigerant lines- something which could be custom made, something I'm trying to avoid). And the condenser in many ways dictates the charge air cooler position.
My goal is to get all three heat exchangers away from the engine as much as possible to allow the incoming air to have a path into & out of the heat extractor vents in the hood. That is the reason why I cut out the front cross member. I think the stock configuration has the engine very very close to the rad & fans... I suspect there is a lot of dirty air in the engine bay, so I am trying to clean it up & guide it to where I think it should go.
So tonight I bent up some upper half sections to hold the rad to the frame rails. The rails have already been "de burred" of old rad bracket uppers, so I should be able to get these tacked on tomorrow if all goes well.
Yeah the steel I re-used from Wilson's hood. Hey, I'm a baller on a budget!

Good morning!
Here's what is in store for Wilson.
It's a fair bit to chew off, but fortunately the winter is kind of harsh this year, which helps.
Up until now, I'm usually in a rush & compromise. THIS TIME I want to do everything right.
So a general description:
Wilson will be a street legal high performance sports car:
-2750 lbs and 300+hp
-a/c and heat
-Roll bar (not full cage) and adding door bars
-28mm torsion bars/250 lb coils (1.25" lowered), 25.5 & 19mm sways, Bilsteins
-de-powered steering for feel
-Factory power brakes with modified stock brake pedal ratio for 3/4" more leverage & custom carbon peddle extensions to move seat rearward.
-Really struggled with seat choice, but selling my older sparco seats & replacing with new. I love the blue. I was going to go with reclining seats, but it's tough to go back after you realize how much stronger a fixed back is. The Sparco Sprint is a good looking, light seat that feels supportive in the corners & fits my budget, but on long long days of driving, my back suffers, so do I buy the cushions to support the back more? Or save more money to upgrade?
-Really trick "flip up" Momo or Sparco 350mm steering wheel, for easy ingress/egress (whatever that means, LOL)
-Aluminum front splitter & carbon wing. A lot of fabrication is required. Some crazy ideas too!
-Custom dash. Might get it wrapped... Check out the insaaaaannnnne Skull & Roses theme a customer's truck came with.
--Side mirror delete. Lots of aero. I also want big fat tires, but don't know what tires will fit the 1988 n/a? IDEAS??? I'm thinking 10" x 17" rear and don't know for the front. What wheels will fit these cars?
