I know a few of you have.
I'm after some photos, as a lot of photos here are old and broken links now.
Curious how you got it to fit because it looks like there's not much room.
Thanks. _________________ 924 - Race car project in the works.

I'm using a K27, there is like 15-20mm left from the compressor to the frame.
You can keep the original turbine and only change the compressor. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Here's the tricky part. I was originally going to use a GTX3071R. But then a friend who's using a BorgWarner EFR in his 944 talked me into using the EFR series. So I want to use a EFR 7670 and i have found with some searching that Joakim is using one. Impressed with the dyno numbers and the way it spools so heading down that path.
Here's a photo of it installed:

The biggest hurdle i have is being a RHD. steering shaft is in the way.
I have a solution for this problem, But it's going to be tricky.
I'll get to the solution when i get closer to properly building the engine - It'll all be on my thread.
But at the same time i'm still trying to gather as much info as possible because it's going to be a huge task!! _________________ 924 - Race car project in the works.

Well if you're going to use a different turbo family you might as well just fab yourself a different exhaust manifold to go around the steering bit and maybe move the turbo a bit further to the front of the car so you have even more cleareance for the turbo. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

There is a lot about what I was able to fit where including a lot of pictures showing the clearance of the turbo and associated plumbing in this thread..
I think what it describes is a pretty good package and you could step it up to a k27 like morghen easily. I'd say the 2664 compressor is good to 1bar which is approaching the limits of OEM CIS though depending on how crazy you want to get..
How much boost are you really shooting for?
What are you doing? Are you going standalone EFI with custom exhaust manifold, turbo, IC, WG and the whole shebang?
If you are sticking within the bounds of CIS being so extravagant may not be the most efficient path..
Are you talking about an NA or a 931/2? What are you doing exactly?
We/I need to know what you are working with and what your goals are in order to make decently relevant suggestions.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

Morghen,
I don't have a turbo exhaust manifold, I'll be making one regardless how i place the turbo. But yes different family turbo.
I want to avoid putting the turbo in front of the engine
Dan,
Thanks for the links. some things in those are quite helpful.
Eddie,
I've seen your thread before, i think it's on rennlist?
Any K series turbo is out of the question. To old tech for me/what i want to achieve.
I've 90% settled on a BorgWarner EFR 7670. Why? because if done correctly, I'll achieve quick spool (for the size of the turbo) and great power delivery and power potential.
Full EFI. Motec..
924 N/A RHD.
I updated my signature, Build thread is in it. full run down of initial plans.
It's quite strict on what i want to do and use. All for a good reason. _________________ 924 - Race car project in the works.

In that case, get ahold of a BAE or Windblown manifold, or make one that is a replica of it. This avoids the issue you are describing with the RHD steering shaft. Both of these manifolds use a standard T4 flange.
Here is a link with some documentation and photos we've collected over the years. http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=29561
Also, lildude4life has recently completed an EFR installation on his 931. He hasn't posted details here, but I would suggest sending him a PM. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

If you are going down the path of making a manifold let me know if you want a pattern for the flange. I did the same to fit a TD04 to a 931 and have a pdf file and possibly a .dxf file that you can send straight to a laser / waterjet cutting joint. |

Dan,
Thanks for the link. Interesting set up. I'm just not sold on having the turbo up the front.
Eddie,
I've spoken to raceboy a few times and have been though those threads, But thanks.
Morghen,
Turbo in front of the engine as in in front of the belts. I want to avoid that.
I've been sick for a week so been researching turbos and setups. hence this thread. The RHD and the EFR 7670 is going to be a tough do to the way i want it. The EFR needs to be a twin scroll set up with equal length headers or it's pointless going with an EFR.
I haven't bought anything for the turbo set up until i'm 100% with it.
But i have an idea what might work. It's a bit tricky, but i think i can make it work. When i get to work monday, i'll see if my idea will work then post about it. _________________ 924 - Race car project in the works.

Interesting project, i wouldn't mint equal length on such an installation. A more compact manifold will most likely give you better response than equal length due to less volume, and be easier to install. Keeping it divided is the important thing here, especially with engines like ours without vva functions _________________ 1980 924 Turbo
